Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone , I was recently Banded on 4/12 and was told I can have diet plain yogurt and Jello along with my liquids ... but after much reading online and feeling a sense of disappointment coming on due to only losing 1llb in 6 days.. im thinking.. did I mess up?

Was I not supposed to have Jello or Yogurt? So much stuff online .. im so confused.

Please help..

I was banded 4/12 too! Relax :) Follow what you were told to eat. After surgery your body panics and tries to hold on to fat stores at all cost, so the weight doesn't drop off immediately. Also, you probably gained 5-10 pounds of fluids in the hospital during the surgery. Keep doing what you were told and the weight WILL start coming off.

(and in case your wondering, my ticker includes my pre-band weight loss, it's not all in the past 6 days!)

Thanks Rachel! My concern is that I had it done overseas, so needless to say the DR has been very lax in the post-op diet and Im left to do my own research online , which can be frustrating with the amount of information.

To make matters worse. I managed to get a head cold that has made me super weak with flu symptoms , so Im not able to be active to assist the first week.

Im just so nervous.. I guess tomorrow I will re-start and only take in Water, Soup and tea.. and elliminate the sugar free Jello and diet yogurt..

I wouldn't even say that you need to go that far. I'll tell you what my practice says:

days 1-6: 60 oz. Water or clear, non-caffeinated, non-carbonated, sugar-free liquids per day

60 g. Protein per day (protein shakes- powder mixed w/ water)

clear broth, sugar-free Jello

days 7-13: stage 2: full liquids

continue 48-60 oz. Clear Liquids daily

continue Protein drinks- can be mixed with skim or 1% milk now- aim for 60g. protein/day

light yogurt

low-fat cream Soups

sugar-free custard/pudding

NO LUMPS OR CHUNKS!!

no need to separate fluids & foods at this point

Days 14-21: stage 3: mushy foods

So really, I think you're FINE with the jell-o and yogurt you've had. I've seen plenty of other people who were allowed to start on "full liquids" on day 3 after surgery. Don't beat yourself up! :)

Hi,

I was also banded on 4-12-11. I have lost 16 lbs so far from starting my pre-op diet. Don't worry, you sound like you are doing it correctly. I have been having yogurt and pudding and it is working. I was in the hospital for 3 days due to low potassuim, so I was loaded with liquid.

I have been having a yogurt everyday and have been losing. I have make up my own sort of yogurt conconction that is working great. Here is is in case you want to try it:

Half of a dannon light and fit pinapple/coconut yogurt (3 ounces)

about 2-3 ounces of 1% milk or skim

scoop of vanilla Protein powder

few ice cubes

Blend it up and it tastes like a virgin pina colada and loaded with the protein! Takes a little time to finish it all, but you should only sip it.

I have also added Protein Powder to any instant sugar free pudding (usually a half a scoop)

Ditto Rachel412 above. Also is the Jello and yogurt low-fat or sugar free? My dietitian has me eating low-fat Greek Yogurt due to higher Protein content. I have both with fruit and plain. I just took my own fruit and blended. Mix when I want to add flavor to the yogurt. You are not alone.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
