Post surgery

For those asking about the issues with taking a deep breathe: I had the exact same issue. I had my surgery on Friday the 8th, and on Monday I was still having trouble taking a deep breathe. No biggie ( I thought) but my husband insisted I call the doctor just in case. I have never had a surgery before, and he just wanted to verify with the doctor just to be on the safe side. I called my doctor Monday morning, but he was out of town so the nurse referred my issue to another doctor in town covering for him. That doctor's nurse said it sounded perfectly normal--probably just the excess gas still in my stomach causing a little less room for my lungs to expand. BUT she wanted to run it by the doctor just in case. By now it is 5:00 on Monday and the doctor's office called back and said they wanted me to go to the emergency room "just in case" there was a blood clot. That can be a side effect from surgery, so he wanted me to get checked out. Great....

So I spent 7 HOURS in the emergency room!! They did a CAT scan, a chest x-ray, EKG, gallons of blood tests, and Lord knows what else. All to be told, yep...nothing wrong. Probably just gas. Nice. Within two days I felt back to normal and all is well.

Then today, the bill for the emergency room came. $7904.50. For gas. Really. Chest pains of a different kind brought on by that damn bill!!! Thank God for insurance...no telling what my out of pocket costs will be on that gem. The good news, I am fine. At 10 days post-op I feel GREAT! Had my follow-up with the doctor yesterday, and I am scheduled for my fill on May 16th. Wish it was sooner because I am hungry, but managably so.

That sucks!!!!! I'm so sorry! My deep breathing is fine now. I had a feeling it would subside in a couple days....I am glad you are feeling great now, and SOOOOO glad your insurance is picking up that ER bill! Where are you in NC?

I'm thinking I'm going to be feeling your pain, if not a whole lot worse. I went the ER, then was admitted for 3 days and had many tests done. My doctor is going to word my whole experience in such a way to hopefully get insurance to cover this :( . That's not including the ER trip I took the morning after I had finally gotten home from Denver, to which I had no doctor to word things in such a way to help approve the visit.

I hope they send me the bills soon.

Well I am finally home, surgery was at 8:30 back in recovery 1 hour later. I don't want to jinx myself.....but this was so much easier that I thouhgt it would. No gas, very little pain meds. Had some pain in my left shoulder and the biggie was no nausea....yeah!!! The nurse put in the IV on the first try....wow I was impressed. Lost a total of 11 so far but that is Water weight I am sure. I hope everyone being banded soon or had it today....I hope it goes as easy as mine....knock on wood!!!!

My surgery was the 21st - all went well and I'm glad it's over! I'm still a bit sore, but feeling better today. Just trying to get in all my Protein, which is tough right now. Glad everyone is doing well!

I'm doing okay. I didn't have to stay in the hospital, my surgery was a 9am and they sent me home at noon. I've basically just been sleeping a lot. I had some complications and I think that's why I'm still so sore, although it's a lot better today. My Dr. didn't have to remove a hernia or anything, but my liver was still swollen and during surgery it slipped and a hole got poked through it.

How are you doing EastEnd? Everything okay?

You say your Liver was still swollen, how long were you on the pre-op diet before surgery, and what did your Dr have you eat?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
