How do you stop losing?

Recommended Posts

I am 4 lbs. away from my goal and I have no idea how to maintain when I get there and not continue losing. It is impossible for me to overeat, so eating more isn't an option.

Any advice from anyone who has already reached their goal?

You'll have to eat at your maintenance calories, no other way really.

If you can't eat enough to maintain, you'll probably have to get a little unfill until you can. In some ways, figuring out maintenance will probably be like figuring everything out post-surgery-- lots of trial and error until you get it right.

Congratulations on being so close!

Ahhh....I love this question. There are some great bloggers out there who are working on maintenance. Their blogs are really great. I know that many of them had slight unfills when they dropped below their goal weight.

Thanks - I will search the blogs.

I feel truly blessed that the LapBand worked wonderfully for me. It's taken 14 months to lose 70 lbs. I went through plateaus but I remained patient and the weight kept coming off. PLUS my Type 2 diabetes is GONE.

Today I went to Lane Bryant to buy bras. I can't fit in their clothes anymore, but love the bras. The sales lady actually called me "tiny". She used to help me when I was a size 16 (now I am an 8).

It has indeed been trial and error. I'm scared of getting an unfill so I pretty much have just added a coffee here and there, a dessert, a little more sauce, a glass of wine etc. I do have to stay vigilant though, because I see how easily it could get away from me. I'd be lost without the scale--I'll never be one of those skinnies who eats a little too much one day and naturally compensates the next. For me it's a way more self-conscious process than that. Congratulations on reaching your goal! We both know that having to work through maintenance is a good problem to have!

LapNYC - I think I'll be the same as you, when I get to my goal. I am about (OMG - It just hit me) 43 lbs away from my goal. Congratulations to you!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
