OMG...1st fill a couple hours ago!

Recommended Posts

Oh my goodness...4 weeks out...had my 1st fill today (3cc)...I went into my Doctor's office so nervous that they wouldn't find my port or that it had flipped (all the hooror stories I've read)...Nope, didn't even take 1 minute...didn't even hurt. I was relieved. But here's the downfall, I attempted to eat a piece of chicken...I managed to get 3 bites down...and BAM!!!!! I'm in pain.....stuck.....I've been a little stuck before but it passed within minutes....NOT THIS TIME!!!! Now I understand what ''slime" is.... I ended up bringing it up...the slime, the chicken....and I'm still uncomfortable. Burping, everything.... I'm gonna do puree for a day or two...this was too much for me. Tell me it gets better. My poor kids ending up throwing up too. I guess I set off a chain reaction....we're laughing right now..but 30 minutes ago..no one was smiling! Ugh...the agony.....I still feel like a block of air is in my chest. ANY REMEDIES!!!!! HELP...feels like I can puke again...but what's left inside......????? Ugh!!!

You are supposed to be on liquids for three days post fill then upgrade to soft I would never try to eat chicken after a fill. Didnt your doctor give you post fill instructions. No food for a leat the first couple of days after a fill.

I am just one week after banding... So relay don't know how I will react to the fills :-)

But I remember from my meeting with doc before the surgery that I will have to be on liquids after each fill, then mooshies.

Guess post fill diet directions vary as much as pre-opp/post-opp...

Surgery on 3/21/11 for me but definately was told by dr. that after fills you are definately on liquids for a day or two and then progress back through the process. I've seen on the boards here that papaya enzyme chewable tablets help to digest the food alot more quickly. I've got them ready for when I progress to that point and you can get them in Walmart or most of the drug stores. Good luck....hope you feel better soon.

try some pineaplle juice if you can get it down. I believe after your fill you should go on liquids for a day or two so that your stomach can go back down. I understand it may swell after the fill. do liquids and mushies until you feel better..and I think it's the enzyme in pineapple that helps get the food digested quicker..not sure though.

FYI my doctor calls for 24 hours full liquids (tomato, squash Soups, and Protein shakes), then 24 hours mushies (I do pureed Soup and canned chicken mixed with low fat laughing cow cheese, for Breakfast I do fruit greek yoghurt with half scoop vanilla whey isolate protein powder). Lesson learned. Next time I would try a program like the one above. Knock on wood no post fill issues for me.

Thank you all......I feel so much better.....I will definitely be on liquids/mushies for the next few days. that was terrible. Even after I wrote my post, my 12 yr old daughter came in my room to "burp" me. Hilarious (after the fact) but trust me....lesson learned. Thanks again!!!! On my way to work....I'm a night shifter.

Good Luck meluvnme! Hope you don't hurt too much. I was banded 2/3/11 and get my first fill 3/15 - not really looking forward to it. I still find myself forgetting to chew-chew-chew. Most of the last 4 weeks I've been sick with a head/chest cold, coughing my head off, then a sinus cold, on my second prescription for antibiotics, nurse told me I couldn't get a fill unless I got well. I am hoping the fill keeps me from being hungry. Good luck to you.

My doctor doesn't require liquids or mushies after a fill......I can eat anything just be very cautious and chew chew chew. I had a fill around 4:30 yesterday and ate some chicken around 6 and i was perfectly fine :)

Thank God for this forum because a lot of my information and tips come from you all. To be honest, my surgeon's office staff were all friendly and helpful during the process leading up to my surgery date...but then I was told to call every Tuesday afterwards for updates....they never get back to me. I always end up calling back 3 or 4 times over the next few days. So I've resorted back to my booklets and pamphlets/doctor's instructions given to me prior my surgery. Of course when I finally do get to speak with a staff member...it's a ton of excuses....(i still don't like that) and at my fill (yesterday) they're all such sweethearts. So it makes me "tame" my mouth....don't know why I thought I could eat a couple bites of grilled chicken breast...I mean, I chewed and chewed. Oh well, like I said...LESSON LEARNED!!! Thanks all for the feed back.the way I felt last night would've had me ready to go to the ER if i hadn't heard the term "stuck" up here on this site. I've had Tomato Soup for breakfast and Crystal Lite since then....not hungry..I'll do my Protein Shakes later. Honestly, I'm afraid to eat...but I know me....food will start calling my name again. Kim! Kim! Kim! And I'll answer...but this time...easy does it. Down 19 lbs since February 8th. Blessing to all of ya'll!

My doctor didn't tell me about the liquids/smushies recommendation after fills either. I luckily didn't have problems after my first 2 fills, but now, at 3, I have to be very careful afterwards.

There are a lot of questions I never knew to ask until after surgery, so I ended up here a lot. Good luck!!!

Yep ! 3 days on liquids, then work towards the mushes. If still tight, go back to shakes, liquids.

Here is what they tell us From HENRY FOR BARIATRIC CENTER,,

If you get food stuck, this is a recipe for DRANO for LAP BAND.

Take a shot glass, add some ADOLPH'S meat TENDERISER, then Water. Mix well , and swallow

and leave it there, it will eat through the clog.......

Check that with your Dr., if he ever heard of this, We all are told about it at H.F......

Anyone else here of this?

Hope you're feeling better....the fill didn't hurt...it was me not knowing to stick to a liquid diet afterwards that sucked. You'll be fine tomorrow (you fill daate, right?) Let me know how things go. To be honest, i feel like I don't have much restriction now...so it's taking a lot of will-power to stay on task....I can'y wait til I get to my 'sweet spot" as I heard ppl say up here. i need it to come quickly because my head hunger speaks loud and I'm so afraid of sabatoging this journey. But somehow, God is giving me the strength to not go overboard...because I feel like I could...just scared about gaining weight back and wasting time getting the surgery only to fall babck into old habits. much success to the both of us....

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
