Hi everyone. I am set for surgery 4-21-11. I am glad I joined this site. I was feeling discouraged and nervous about being banded and not being successful. However, I've learned from this site that the band is only a tool and I have to use it correctly to "build a house." I've noticed that the people that are successful have used it as a tool and followed the rules and are where they want to be. I think I am ready to do the same thing. I bought some exercise equipment and ready to get started even before surgery. I have about 150 lbs to go till a normal BMI. I can't wait. Anyone out there 5-6 years out? How is it going for you now?

Congrats! I also had surgery the 21....good luck to you, and I agree it is a tool and not a cure all. I really want to move on to mushies but know I need to heal, so I'll wait.

Well I haven't been banded for even a year yet. I was banded in january and since the beginning of all of this I have lost 51 lbs. Knowing that the band is here to help me and that I have to do the rest is key. =) GOOD LUCK TO ALL.

I have just completed our local presurgical counseling program. It offers a strict but incredible program. I am not waiting to hear on insurance approval. I have been researching the band for about 8 months now and I'm excited to start this journey. I was so happy to find this online talk forum!

Just wondering how you were doing? I also had surgery on 4-21-11 and I have lost 18 lbs so far. Still somewhat sore where they secured the port to a muscle, but other than that I feel SO much better, have more energy and have had no more acid reflux, indegestion, bloated and uncomfortable feeling. Trying to walk on my treadmill every day to burn those calories.

Another tool that I have found is that drinking this Protein powder from powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury.com is really helping me lose weight, it's the best tasting that I've found and it has 20 grams of Protein, only 180 calories and 1% fat with 8 oz of skim milk. (Of course I only drink 6 oz of milk.) fills me up, lasts long and really taste great!! And NO CARBS!! Unjury Protein Powder, I think someone said you can get it at Walmart now, but I get it on line. A girl at work told me about it. Her doctor told her of it when she had surgery. My doctor's office didn't tell me anything. They recommended slim fast. Duh! that is loaded with carbs! Good thing to have friends.

Take care.

Kim

well so far I've lost 44 lbs. It's going slow, but looking good. Love that all my clothes are so big. Buying medium sized shirts instead of XL and able to wear so many pants/clothes that I haven't been able to get into for years, even went down 2 sizes in my underwear! LOL. loving it, no more granny panties for me LOL! Keeping it going at a steady pace. If it wan't so hot out (100 degrees most days) I'd do more walking outside, riding my new bike or trying to jog, but it's way too hotfor that, so I've been doing alot of vigorous exercises in the pool like jumping jacks, swimming 50 laps around, and jogging 50 laps around with new rubber bottomed pool shoes that keep my feet from slipping. Love those exercise DVD's and my indoor treadmill. Feels great to have more energy, and being so much lighter as I'm doing them. Never give up, Never surrender ! !

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
