The classes are by far the best way to go. It may take a few classes to find your groove.. but once you start getting the moves down it gets to be easier! My sister, who has MS, has been a Zumba instructor for a little over a year now and she benefits a ton from it, as well as her students. There are all types of people that go, with all types of skill levels and body types.. and noone really pays attention to what anyone else looks like while they're doing the workout.. they're all too busy keeping up. If it's available near you.. definitely give it a try.. I'm betting you'll love it!!

As someone who teaches it, I can tell you that Zumba has a lot of benefits. The main benefit is that it provides cardiovascular exercise as well as strength training so you get it all at once! The greatest thing about Zumba is that you participate at your own level. If you've got bad knees, bad back, or whatever you can modify what you're doing and it's no big deal. With any exercise program, the key is that you do it more than once a week and regularly. If you exercise once a week and think you're doing something for your body...wrong. Classes are generally 45-60 minutes and it's not a session of "killing you" because it's fun and the instructor knows how to adequately warm you up and cool you down so that you don't get hurt. Live classes are much more fun than videos and remember: Every one has a first day.

After my banding on 3/3 i plan to return to Zumba low impact and let my seasoned veterans do all the jumping for me until i can do it again myself!

I have to say I am addicted to Zumba it's the best been doing it for over two years and it works and you feel good and the music is awesome.

but you have to have good instructors and I have two great ones. I love love love Zumba it's the best ever.

being in a class is so awesome and you can work at your own pace. i have met so many people and became friends it's awesome. I was banded almost three years ago and Zumba has helped me in so many ways. I do it 4 days a week. I also do Master classes when special instructors come down from all over, it's a blast.

I've been totally curious about Zumba for a while, but was nervous because I was worried it might be hard on my joints, but it looks like so much fun! I want to try it! This thread has inspired me to check out a class now. What level of fitness do you recommend before trying?

Zumba was my first type of workout with this weight loss journey. I was totally out of shape, but I did what I could, I was actually able to do most of it. 40 pounds down and I feel I can participate 100%. You should just try it; you'll probably find that you love it and it is easy to make it low impact.

I love Zumba I can go every night

It's a great workout that feels like your dancing to great Latin music for 55mins

It's the best thing that ever started

I have been going for over 5 1/2 years

I had to stop twice for surgery and believe me it makes a difference in my stomach thighs butt etc

I met so awesome people and made some very close friends. There is nothing like it

But you have to find a good instructor that makes a difference. And it's Zumba not a jazz class

Been to different classes to try other instructors out and you know when you find the right one

For me it's Latin not jazz

I love it. It's the best

Do it you will be hooked

Zumba addict here!! I totally suck at it as I've only been going for a a month, but every class is pure fun and entertainment. I am so busy trying to keep up, I don't care what I look like or if anyone else is looking at me. All ages, all sizes and all fitness levels are in there as well as all skill sets.

My biggest focus is finding someone who knows what they are doing and following them. I am getting some of the moves down but I can tell you that I have a LONG way to go. When I leave Zumba, I am drenched in sweat and I am exhausted, much more so than any other cardio workout including my beloved kickboxing. I have no doubt that as I get better at it, the workout will only be more intense because at that point you can let yourself go and really move as you are no longer working so hard just to go in the right direction.

I can totally see why anyone would feel intimidated, but I promise you, you won't be the first one to suck at it and you won't be the last. Learn at your own pace, move at your own pace and have a great time! Every class brings new challenges and giggles. I love every minute of it.

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
