Hey all, good to see so many continue on with these challenges! So since jan only had a loss of 5.5 I wanna make 7 lbs for feb, so starting weight 214.5 and here's to wishing for 207.5... went to the gym today and found a personal trainer for cheep so goal is to meet with her 2x a week, and not eat too many chocolates ( 3 kisses every other day isn't too bad right? Considering I use to eat a bag in one sitting...head shakes) and to drink more Water. Good luck all, here's to a new you! :)

I think 3 kisses every other day is fabulous!

So... where or how do we post our weigh ins?

When you weigh in each Monday put your name, real or screen with your current weight. Lindsey will take the data and put it on the spread sheet.

Lindsey~ Thanks again for doing our stats!

It is great to see so many people joining The Sweetheart's Challenge. I think challenges are a fun way to be motivated and to motivate others.

Have a great day, Joan

Thanks for the new challenge! I can't wait to get started. I'm really struggling right now and need some support and motivation to keep me going. I lost a lot of weight early on and now I've stopped. I haven't lost but one pound in almost two months! One fill and that didn't affect me at all! Scheduled for another fill at the end of Feb, but until then...

So I woke up this morning extremely discouraged. I look at exercise as a chore that I don't want to do. Maybe it's just me wanting to start off with some big exercise routine when I need to start off small. I don't have the money for a gym and I always fall behind with those work out videos. Not to mention they make me feel like a fool because I don't look good like they do. Like Zumba. I freaking love Zumba but I've only seen the Zumba brand dvd's and even the basic one I can't keep up with on some of the steps. I just needed to vent and was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to make a work out not seem like a bothersome chore. Thanks for listening to me.

Hey girl! I totally understand where you are coming from. I find exercise to be annoying and most of the time actually getting started is the worst/hardest part. Start off slow...like go for a walk. I know these days it is freezing out but if you bundle up really well you'll end up sweating after a 30 min. walk. Slowly increase your walking time and distance as well as add a jog or hand weights when you're walking.

I think a lot of the times work out videos are super hard and way above what most "normal" people can do, sure a super athlete can do them (like the ones in the videos) but we have a hard time. Don't feel bad about it because we all fall behind and can't keep up. Have you ever tried taebo? I love it, some of the moves are hard and sometimes I can't keep up but most of the time they're doable. Give it a try. :) As far as zumba goes....I bought the tapes 2-3 yrs ago, watched them and was like "hell no" and never touched them again, waste of my $65. I started going to the classes last year and it's a completely different experience. You don't have to worry about "looking/feeling dumb" because during every class there are new people that have never done it so they mess up the instructor messes up...it's all a part of the fun. I promise that you'll eventually get the steps and you'll love it. Try the classes. :)

I don't know if I was much help....I guess what I was trying to say was just start with a 30 min walk and see where it takes you, any type/amount of exercise is great.

I hear ya Lindsey. Do you like to walk? Can you walk during a break at work? I sometimes walk for 30 minutes during my lunch break at work and feel so happy when I am done because I not only physically feel good but I know I don't need to try and schedule a work out after work. Do you live close enough to a mall to drive there to walk? That is a fun way to walk, it's climate controlled, they have restrooms :D , the window displays are entertaining and there is music playing. The malls where I live open early for walkers before the stores open.

My sister told me today she has been enjoying a Denise Austen tape with a 12 minute routine that differs each day. I enjoy the Walk Away the Pounds DVD's. Do you have cable or satellite? My cable has an on demand free channel called " Fit TV". It has a lot of different choices of exercises to do.

You can even walk, march, leg lift, arm weights... while watching TV. Try to schedule exercise each day like the other things you have to schedule. Even 10 minutes can make a change! Try the old parking farthest away from stores when you shop. That'll be at least 5 minutes in and 5 minutes out. Sometimes when I am shopping at Sam's Club I'll push my cart and walk briskly up and down every single aisle, this takes about 20 minutes.

Let me know if any of these ideas seem like something you want to try.

Joan

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
