How do you feel about drinking water to lose weight?

Hi all,

The importance of water for weight loss was never part of what my nutritionist said. She told me to be sure I avoid dehydration, but never mentioned that the amount of water I drink can impact the rate of weight loss. I have read several threads where people mention "if I don't drink enough water, I don't lose weight". Do you find this to be true? If so, how much do you drink? I want to try anything to get over this plateau I'm in!! Thanks for any input.

Yep, water is good and will help with your weight loss. If you are dehydrated the body will store and hold on to all the fluids that you currently have and cause you not to lose some weight. You may lose some but it's gonna hold on to what it's got! I hate water so I do the 8 cups a day.

There is no way I can drink 64 oz. of water a day. I just can't I am so full with just eating my food. I try to drink as much liquids as possible. I am 4 months out and have lost 55 lbs. Maybe that is why I am so constipated all the time. I am going to really try and drink more water.

I get a 32oz Water every morning at work and put about 4 oz. orange juice and fill the rest with ice and water. I find that I do not have blood sugar spikes and drops by doing this. It also gives the water great flavor-even better if you add a crystal light early morning orange. I am much more likely to drink water that has some kind of flavor and natural sugar will kepp me more balanced thru the day.

i do believe water has helped with my constipation and with losing weight.

I haven't found any studies that suggest that water aids in weight loss (its something that I'm interested in so I'm always looking for some evidence, one way or the other) but it does help with general bodily functions. And it especially helps BMs, as sometimes that can be a problem for banded folks. I don't think water will help you lose weight, but it will certainly help maintain general health. And its especially important to stay extra hydrated if you're working out a lot.

I agree that Water helps. I don't know if it's because it 'fills' you up so you're not as hungry or what. But I've noticed it just in the past few wks. My weightloss had slowed down or stopped, and I realized I was barely drinking 32 oz if that a day. Only because it's been cold. I normally drink 72 oz or more of water a day.

I started back to drinking at least 64 oz and I notice my weight is going down again. Could just be me, but I figure it can't do any harm.
