In 2009 I did my 6 month diet only to be turned down by the insurance company because they didnt include bariatric surgery in their coverage.

In 2010 My insurance changed and now covered surgery.l I didnt find this out until August.

In July I applied for a new job in my home town in CA and really wanted to move back home. I do hospital IT and jobs just dont come up very often. I interviewed and was turned down because they felt I didnt have enough experience.

I have surgery in October (they used my 2009 diet so I didnt have to do it over).

Fast forward to January. I sent email saying that I was still interested as the position had not been filled (it was posted in 4/10) and would be in town and would like to meet with them again. Interview at 9am, job offer at 11am. Seems I was the only candidate to apply.

New insurance does not cover bariatric surgery!

If I had been offered the job in July I would not have been able to have surgery, or would have had to pay for it myself.

I am a firm believer that things have a way of happening for a reason!

Are you familar with Healthcare Flexible Spending Accounts? They are offered by most employers (Esp 100 employees or more). The way they work is that you decide how much money you want to put aside for medical expense in a year that your insurance will not cover. This money is taken out of your check PRETAX; and goes into this account. Today most programs give you a Visa/Mastercard that you use to pay for medical care of supplies not covered by insurance. It's important to calculate how much money you will need because once the money is put into this account you can't take it back! Since it is pretax they won't refund it to you. You should be able to use this account to pay for visits to a Bariactric Doctor or fills etc; and would save you whatever you tax burden in at least 25%.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
