Still hate my band

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on June 15, 2010. I posted soon after that it wasn't working. I seem to up set a few on here. Their replies pretty much turned me off of this site, so I have not posted. Well guess what I still hate this thing. It doesn't work for me. I will say it again...really think about this before you do this. it seem to work for some, but please understand it doesn't work for everyone. I see the Doctor Tuesday and I'm going to tell him do something or take it out. I'm done with it.

Swirl,

The sad truth is that the band does not work for everyone but why do you believe it hasn't worked for you? I think sometimes when people say the band isn't working for them, it's because they are expecting the wrong thing out of the band. I'm not saying that's the case with you, but why do you believe it's not working for you?

I'm so sorry that you feel this way about your band. The band is a tool and it's only as good as it's operator. You get out of it exactly what you put into it. It's not magic. It takes a lot of long hard work to get to the end of your journey. Too bad you are giving up so soon.

I have had a few fills and never got any restriction till the last one. I would get food stuck and start throwing up. Doctor took some of the fill out. I go back this Tuesday. I am able to eat just like I did before the surgery. If I have to eat baked chicken and green Beans the rest of my life to loss weight, then why did I need surgery? If I could do that I would of done that on my own. I really don't understand this band thing. Even it they get where I have restriction and don't throwing everything up, I don't want to eat baked chicken the rest of my life. I really wished i had just had by pass and been done with this.

I hate that you have had such a bad experience. I hope it gets better for you. I was just banded in October so I don't have much experience, but I know I have to put in work so the band can work for me. I read a lot before I got it and my surgeon told me it was not a magic bullet. Maybe your surgeon didn't expplain that???

I hope you find out what works best for you. It may be bypass or the sleeve. Good luck to you and I hope you keep us posted. Be positive and you will find what you are looking for.

A few on here seem to have gotten upset with me about voicing my opinion of the band also.

I hate mine too. It has been a COMPLETE waste of money and time! I have had it 14 months and had 14 fills. It's almost completely useless!!!!!!!!!!

That is completely UNTURE!!! No it is NOT only as good as it's operator! Yes the operator has to work with it..............however IT DOESN'T WORK FOR EVERYONE!!!!!! Why would u dare assume that SHE is at fault???

U don't get out of it exactly what u put in! Some ppl put a hell of a lot into it and get NOTHING in return!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't beleive she asked for a magic bullet now did she? U have a not of nerve suggesting that that is how she feels!

Yes it does take a lot of hard work...........but for some ppl that hard work does not end with the band paying off for them!

STOP BEING SO JUDGEMENTAL! U DON'T KNOW HER SITUATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Excuse me but why would u think that she is so stupid that she doesn't know if her band is working or not???

Formerly Fluffy,

I hate that people have responded negatively to you. The band is not right for everyone. It would not have been right for me a few years ago.

Since everyone here has weight issues, you would think that they should understand we have all tried different things. Every body and soul is different so some need WLS and some don't. Some need the band, but some don't. Bypass or the sleeve works for some. I praise all people for anything they chose. Your mindset may not work with the band. Just be strong and find what you need. The band may still work for you??? Who knows??? Please let us know what is going on with you. Just know that I will not have a negative response to you. Good luck!!!

Thanks Lacrecia,

I've had it 14 months and had 14 fills. No restriction. I have just wasted too much time and money on it at this point! :-(

Oh my word!!! I have only had 1 fill so I don't know your frustration. If you were self pay, that would suck even more.

I don't have a lot of restriction, but I don't like surgery so I went through a big mind altering phase before I did this. Maybe I could have done this without surgery?? Who knows?

I hope you find what you need. Please feel free to add me as a friend. I will not judge you. I am all about helping others as I get help.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
