so im thinking about travelling to anywhere in Australia to get it done by whomever is the cheapset surgeon, every dollar counts in my case, if theres any loopholes or ways of getting it cheaper please share, im desperate...:help: how much did you all pay?

i was even thinking thailand lol....

thanks in advance for all your input.....

Hi,

I am getting my band in Prague Czech Republic (Europe) at private clinic for 4000 dollars. the web site is www.iscare.cz look at their web site:-)

The main surgeon is the one who invented the whole laparoscopic lapbanding (Dr.Fried). I guess Im in the best hands:)

Good luck to you

I paid 15,530 for my band at the Sydney private Hospital. It includes the overnight hospital stay, Fills for 13 months and 8 dietitian consults and any support groups they have. I paid out of pocket (still paying)! But I believe it is well worth it. I was told at medicare they would allow me to claim $900 back on that as well. I couldnt wait a year for insurance and defiantly not 5-10 years for medicare.

I think you can also claim medical expenses on your tax return too. I am not sure if the ATO are still doing this, but it would be well worth bringing your receipts when you do your return.

$3500 for my surgeon and $500 for the anaethatist on the Gold Coast QLD...all fills and follow up appointments are included in this price.

I paid $15000.00 for the surgery itself, $200.00 for an initial consultation with the doctor, $2500.00 for two round trip flights to Houston, another $1200.00 for my sister to fly down with me, Hotels $350.00. Another $300.00 for a nurse sitter at my hotel. So in total I spent: $19550.00 out of my pocket, yikes its the first time Ive added it up. But if I can get to my goal weight and stay there it will be worth it to me.

If Lady Loca is from the US and coming to Australia for the lapband at least the exchange rate will be in her favour and also make it cheaper.

I have no complaints about what I paid....even if it was a year ago-it's what I needed and wanted. Yup, I am about to have my 1st anniversary---I feel great, look great and am toodling along on my weight loss... Can't wait for the 2nd anniversary to see how much more I have lost--probably be at target weight.

Gone from a size 24 down to a 14/16....:clap2:

I'm in Australia and will be fully self-paid (my insurance doesn't kick in for another 12 months and I can't wait). I was told "between $11 and 12,000" but I get some (not very much!!) back on Medicare for the anaesthetist and surgeon. I will also get most back on the doctor's visits for the initial consults and fills, etc. If it all works as planned, it will be worth every penny.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
