So I'm going to be a bridesmaid in late June. I went to David's Bridal a few days before my surgery with the bride and the other bridesmaids. Boy, was that hard. I looked horrible in all the outfits and I felt 3 times bigger then the other girls. The dress that was decided upon has a trumpeted skirt with is very unkind to most larger curvy girls. However, it is the brides day and I will suck it up and wear whatever. They are two piece dresses, but the skirt and top don't fit my body type and would require lots of alterations.

Several girls already ordered their dresses. Well, I was a few days from the surgery so I didn't.

How long do you think I can wait before ordering and how do I predict my size? Obviously, it is better to go a little big and take in then go a little small and be stuck. Right now it would be a 24 bottom (to fit the trumpeted part over my thighs and then have to take 6-8 inches off my waist) and an 18 or 20 top (so it fits over my hips) taking 6 inches off near the bust).

Any suggestions. I was 258 pounds the day we tried it on, and June isn't that far away, but I just had my surgery and it is a lot of money for an really unflattering dress so I just want to have the best shot at the best fit possible.

Thanks!

First check with the store and find out when the latest date is you can order it. You'd hate for them to no longer carry that dress, or not have it in your size.

Nothing worse than an ugly dress!! And especially when you're in the midst of losing weight.

It's so hard to say what size to get, because who knows how much you'll lose. If you're able to, I'd wait at least another month or two. You're bound to lose some weight by then.

You're a good friend. I was asked to be a bridesmaid (this was year's ago) for a friend but she wanted all her bridesmaids to wear the exact same dress and allowed the bridesmaids to choose the style (by majority vote apparently). While it was her day, I didn't feel it was necessary for me to 'boob bobble' in a strapless, body hugging sheath that looks good (maybe) if you're 15 and without an ounce of body fat but is laughable on a 270 pound woman. I turned her down.

Ask the bridal shop what the absolute last day is to order your dress. At that point, you can try it on and decide where to go from there. I'd go big because you can always take it in but you can't take it out.

Having never been married, but have been an "eternal bridesmaid", I am convinced these brides pick the worst dresses so they look even more beautiful on their day. LOL I tell my friends that if I ever take that walk down the aisle they will be sorry. :)

I'd wait till the latest possible. The first few weeks even you could lose like 30 lbs I had this problem in the past I did a wedding and I bought my dress then lost a ton of weight and had to buy another one haha. They can only take so much in and keep the shape of the dress.

I just dealt with the same thing recently. I am a bridesmaid in a wedding in May of this year and I was just banded on 12/23/10. The bride pressured me to order so I ordered a size 22 (I was a size 26 pre-op). I explained to the bride that there's no way I can predict what my size will be or what my weight loss will be after this surgery but she didn't seem to care, she just wanted me to order.

When I ordered, I explained to the woman at David's Bridal that I am having weight loss surgery and I have no way to predict what size I will be. She was totally understanding and put a comment in the computer. She said my dress should be arriving by March and I can try it on then. She said they can take in dresses one to two sizes. If I require a smaller size, I should be all set as long as I let them know by March and they'll exchange my dress for a smaller size. I think if you explain to the people at David's Bridal what is going on, they will be accommodating. They must deal with this sort of stuff all the time.

Best of luck. :-)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
