Dr. Frederick Tiesenga - anybody else here banded by Dr. T?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if any other members here were banded by Dr. Frederick Tiesenga and would be interested in sharing their experiences?

Regards,

Katy

Yes, I had him. He is very sweet and skilled at the table, but I have to say I am extremely frustrated with him over all. I'm sad to have such a negative response, but the contradicting information and lack of communication plus lack of nutritional knowledge on his part and his staff's part has made my journey painful, stressful and scarey.

Would love to hear other people's stories with their surgeons (including Dr. T's) and compare notes.

i will be banded by his office (either him or his partner) in august. Saw him at the seminar and he was very nice and funny. But when I went to his office for my first appointment, I was slightly surprised by him. He came in for exactly 1 minute and said it will change your life. Thats it. I thought I would have been able to talk to him more and get a feel for this man who will be operating on me. Now his nurses and assistant at the hospital was very nice. She was very friendly and very interested in me. She also gave me so much information and helped me so much. But maybe he was just busy my day.

LMAO! Here's my experience....

I was banded by Dr. Reishus, an amazing man!!! I couldn't be more grateful for how he handled my journey.

The one day he wasn't available I had to see Dr. T.... NEVER AGAIN! The way Dr. T spoke to me caught me by surprise, I felt like a freaking 5 year old and I barely got a word in... and like Peacefulband said, he was there for like a minute and then vanished, lol. Two of my friends and I also had issues with Cecilia and had to involve the Office Manager. Cecilia tried to give me the run around a few times and just brush me off. If you want her to get things done then you really have to be on top of her, no joke. SMH! And if you ever need any advice about the band don't call her. Make sure you speak to Julianne, the Bariatric Coordinator at West Lake or Christina at Dr. T's office... they are both sensational women!!! Also, Sherri is extremely helpful as far as nutrition goes.. and she's always at the meetings... another amazing woman.

Good Luck and hope to see you all at the next meeting!!! July 18th....

I agree with Peaceful and Maria!!!! IDENTICALLLLLL experiences!

Dr. T treated me the same way, spent no time with me and I have found my blood pressure rising each and every time I have an appointment there. I truly got on Cecelia's (please excuse my language) ass about things pre-surgery, too! Julianne is wonderful and the Doc named Christina who is there now is very sweet, but also seems a bit difficult to get real information out of.

I will do my best to be at the meeting on July 18th!

I was banded by Dr Tiesenga in January 2010. I enjoyed Dr T but I didn't care Cecila she wasn't pleasant. Lost 98 lbs. Kinda stuck right now. Office is hard to get in for appts. Sometimes I feel I am not being supported by him.

I just saw Dr. T once in his office. He came and greeted me saying: Hi, I'm the Doctor T. You have a question? I said no. Then he left the room and did not see him again. Then I get a bill for $ 600. Obviously he was not my surgeon and do not recommend him.

I am post op one year from Dr. T, he's not very social I must agree, but if you want to see him, he will see you. I think he's an amazing doctor and knows lap band surgery. I always meet with Cristina however Dr. T did perform a fill and he did it so perfectly so great, he made me feel special and he said I was perfect. Lost 65 pounds 30 more to go to goal. Starting weight 222, now 160, goal 130.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
