I got sucked into an infomercial on Zumba but it looks like a great form of exercise but definitely a skill that one would advance in over time. Just wondering if anyone out there has tried it and if anyone had thoughts on it.

Thanks!

Hello there,

I am a self proclaimed "Zumbaholic," I do Zumba at my local YMCA...LOOOVVVE IT and I also ordered the DVD set last fall. I found the dvd set to be a little difficult to follow, they seem to move a bit fast for me. I much rather go to the Y and take my classes.

Honestly, my set of Zumba dvd's are sitting in my living room collecting dust. I am hoping that I can work my way up TO the dvd's next year.

It's really fun! I LOVE it! You find ppl of all types in the class and skill level. I also got it on the Wii, and it's great fun too, since you can select which skill level you are.

Go for it, you won't regret it.

I love Zumba. I ordered the tapes too just so I can mainly get the toning with the sticks that the class does not do. I am getting a wii, so may the wii one as well and give my DVD's as a gift except the toning. I find most DVD's you have to work up to them. Hang in there and do the rate you can do until you can pick it up.

I would love to do Zumba, I am afraid I will be the only fat lady there. Is it hard and is it making a difference in your weight loss. Does it get the Cardio up? I really need to be sure I do the right exercises for me and I do Cardio every day. Anyway, peoples thoughts on what they are doing would be great. I used to love Tae Bo. LOL

I keep seeing them on TV, but haven't bought them YET. My gym does have a Zumba class, but it's only offered during the morning which makes it impossible for me to attend. I think I might hold off a little longer and once I hit the 50lb. weight loss goal I have (which is only about 10 lbs. away), I may buy it as a Reward to myself.

Absolutely! The gym I use has a login system that tracks all your activity and how many calories based on your weight, etc (you do a full physical when you join that is entered in the computer--you are given a personal ID number to login when you go). For the hour long Zumba class, I burn a 1000 calories! You absolutely will not be the only fat lady there. In fact, in my class, you see more, fat than thin because the key to being consistent in exercise (at least for me) is finding something you enjoy. Most of us are having such a good time, the hour passes by and trust we are sweating--I sweat harder in Zumba than I did the step aerobics class for some reason. I use to Taebo too!

I do Zumba 2x a week at my Curves site. One night is 30 minutes that includes the curves circuit machines and the other is 60 minutes of all Zumba. I LOVE IT and it is an awesome cardio workout! I mainly joined at Curves to get the hang of it until I get a little more comfortable with the moves, I attended a class at a gym but it was all "skinny minnies" and I felt much to intimidated by it all.

I ♥ zumba! I haven't been since I had my surgery but I used to go religiously before. After the new year I will definitely start back up. It's an awesome workout. Going to a class is 10 x better then doing the dvd's. I bought the dvds like 4 yrs ago and never used them.

You should try it out!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
