I am a slow loser. Right now make sure to take lots of short walks to prevent blood clots. At day four post surgery I was back at the gym. Even though before surgery I was doing an hour of cardio daily; I still needed to gradually work my way up. First day I did about 30 min. on the treadmill slow at no incline. Gradually worked my way up to doing an hour; which I did for two weeks until I could go back to swimming. Find an exercise you can commit to daily. The more committed you are to exercising the faster you will lose.

Hey, I was banded on Nov 19th...I lost for a few days post op - due to being on clear fluids...Once I started eating again - pounds came back on...I will get my first fill Dec 22 at that point the pounds should start to drop again...For now I'm doing my best at making the right choices & controlling my portions. Good luck on your journey.

The first week I lost about 13 lbs. This week I have only lost maybe 3 lbs., even tho I am still on full liquids. So things have slowed down considerably.

I am hoping that with my first fill, I will begin losing again.

I was banded 2 weeks ago today and I have lost about 18 lbs. I was on Clear Liquids for 3 days, and am now still on the slip off of the spoon phase (cream of wheat, yougurt, pudding ect. all sugar free of course). My doctor said do not eat if you are not hungry, and I still have no hunger pains at all, so I pretty much just drink my Water and crystal light. I try to make sure to eat 2 tablespoons a day of something, and can start slowly introducing solids again, but figure why do that if I'm not hungry? So I plan on waiting until my hunger comes back to do so. It's great to see everyone's progress :)

I was banded on 11/22. I lost 11 lbs. from the time I had surgery to the time I went back to the doctor, which was a week later. I lost 18 lbs. on the 2 week pre-op diet and have lost a total of 34 lbs. since I started the pre-op diet on 11/8. So, since surgery, I have lost a total of 16 lbs. Today, I am three weeks post-op. Wow, that was a mouthful!

I was on liquids from the day of surgery, which was on a Monday, until that Friday. Then, I was on mushy foods until the next Friday. Since then, I have been on solids (10 days). My weight loss has slowed down a lot in the last week, but I have NO FILL in my band. So, now that the surgical swelling is gone, I have no restriction and am beginning to tell! The tummy rumbling has started.

Like one poster said, walk as much as you can to prevent blood clots. The first few days, I would walk 5 minutes at a time every 15 minutes. It helped prevent the awful gas build up too! Good luck!!

I also had surgery on Friday, 12/10. I still have gas pain in my shoulder, but more bothersome is the gas pain in my lower stomach area. Do you have lower gas pain? My bowels aren't working quite right yet.

Yes I was banded on 12/10 also and I am so bloated. My bowels are not working right yet either.. they said to drink some diluted prune juice.. It looked like i gained about 3-5 lbs since friday and they said it is the Water retention and etc and not to worry. I also am not getting all my Protein shakes in because I feel real full and they said that it was ok...and this gas pain is kicking my tushy...i cant hardly move because of it....

I hope you get a lot of responses & good wishes on your weight loss

Hi all. i was banded on 12/9 and am down 13lbs. Been on clear liquids for 5 days now and am sooooooooo fortunate that I must still be swollen inside because my hunger has not returned fully. I get mild hints of hunger but a few sips of tea or broth usually quiets everything down for some time. I basically just spend all day sipping either Water, tea, crystal lite or broth. I find that the warmer liquids are more satisfying. I am scared to death of the moment my hunger returns and hope I am close to my first fill when it does. Although I'm also scared of getting too tight and eating stuff that gets stuck. They aren't kidding when they say this isn't the easy way out. My heart goes out to everyone who is experiencing hunger so soon after surgery. Just stay strong and keep coming here for support. Best of luck to everyone.

I was banded on 12/16 (anyone else feel like they should be "released back into the wild" after saying that...sorry, husband is a scientist and that is how they track birds).

Anyway, I was kinda depressed at first because my scale read a full 5 pounds heavier the night after surgery than it did that morning. Last night, I was still there, but am a pound less this morning than surgery morning. I know it just has to be the bloating. I am not in pain, but my stomach looks like it would pop if stuck with a pin.

Hunger has not kicked in, but the cravings sure have. The band has helped in that I know I can't cave in to those cravings where I would have before. It is also a very weird feeling when I try to drink anything...almost like a gas bubble just below my breast bone. It lasts for a couple of seconds, gurgles, then moves on down. I can only assume it is where the band is and it takes a few seconds for it to go through.

Banded wed, 12/15.. gained 4 lbs from Fluid by Thursday, now down 8 lbs from surgery wt today (Sunday). I'm walking as much as I can and think I feel good enough to drive to the gym today and use the tredmill, but my doc said no driving for 1 week postop, and idk about the rest of you but my ride home was the worst, I cried in pain by the time we got home- every bump felt like a ltl knife in my belly, even with a pillow and pain meds right before I left! Anyone else having problems having a solid BM? I know I'm still on clears till tonight, gonna try skim milk Protein Shake, so there is not a lot in there but I've only taken 2 doses of pain meds and liquid colace every night...I heard it hurts the first time but I would feel better knowing its all in working order :)

I was also banded on 12/15 and am on a liquid diet. Just added Protein Shakes. I haven't had a BM yet. Im not feeling gas pain any more, but my belly does look like a balloon. I'm not having any pain though! I gained 11 pounds in the hospital and have finally lost it and I'm back down to where I started. I'm excited to start working out but dr said just walking until I see him again. So, I've been trying to do 30 mins a day on the treadmill.

omg this is exactly what is happening to me (was banded on 12/20) but I couldn't describe the feeling in words. Nice to know someone else has this!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
