Excess mucus/sliming

Recommended Posts

Had a fill the week before Thanksgiving and am having troubles. No matter what I eat, (tiny bites and lots of chewing), I have to immediately go throw up. (Sorry to be gross here) But what comes up is not the food. It's a LOT of mucus! It just keeps coming. I don't know if that's an indication that the fill is too tight or if this is normal. It's very thick like slime and then when I think I've gotten it all out, more comes. Anyone else ever experience this? Thanks!

It means you are too tight - you need to get some fill taken out.

It does seem to me like ur band may be too tight, I had the same problem with my last fill. I choose to wait it out as long as u dont mind being on liquids and very mushy foods for a while. Its not good to throw up so keep it easy as of for me with time as I lose weight my band looses and now im on my sweet spot. Just remember to drink Water and ur Protein and of course ur Vitamins....But do remember I was not throwing up food only mucus and remember u and ur doctor know best ....wishing u lots of luck.

I have this also but I have found instead of purging it, just wait it out. It hurts like hell but you can feel it move. It seems to be much better for me if I let it pass after I take a bite or drink of something. If I purge it, it just seems to make things worse.

Thank you all for the posts for me to read. I have had the band surgery in Aug, 2009 and I am still having mucous issues. I need to purge as soon as I eat, doesn't matter if hot or cold. I was wondeing if anyone has had this problem in relation to stress placing your stomach in knots. Usually when I'm stressed (al the time) I can not eat, but relaxed I can. lately, I haven't been able to at all. Does going back on a liquid diet help in swallowing a gain? I had a fill back in Jan of 2010, over a year ago. Is this common.

I also have had the band several years and have not had a fill since 8 months ago. I do have to Purge a mucus substance after I eat. It seems to be better later during in the day but no matter what I eat I Purge the mucus substance. I also told a friend of mine it is like I am throwing up all my saliva that I have swallowed. I want to wait it out until I lose another 20 lbs before I go back to the Dr. I have been stuck at a platue of 155-158 for the past 6 months. I am only 20lbs from my goal and it is killing me being this close but yet that far away. But no you are not alone in this wierd reaction our body is doing everytime we eat. Good luck. I am kinda relieved because I thought it was only happening to me. [email=Hartsdream@aol.com.

I have/had this problem and I finally went to the doctor and found out my band had slipped and have to have surgery to correct. I would say if you are consistently throwing up, there is a problem. I understand not wanting to get Fluid removed from your band, but I have 3 times now. And I typically lose weight after having Fluid removed b/c I am able to make smarter food choices. When I am so tight that I throw up all the time, I tend to eat foods that I know wont get stuck...which are slider foods and not healthy.

Be careful! I wish I had made better decisions and gone to the doc at the first sign of an issue rather than putting it off and telling myself that I just ate too fast or didn't chew well enough...I might have been able to avoid the band slipping.

Your Dr. told you to take an antihistimine for the mucus production, or mucinex? Really.... Your band is too tight, it is because of this you are producing the mucus...

I am having a Slime issue. It is terrible, but it does seem worse when I am stressed out. And it does not happen all the time but when it does it is awful. It does not matter how fine I chew my food, it will not pass. But it seems like the only thing that comes up is the slime. I am losing weight. I have a doctors appointment in two weeks I will ask him if it means I am too tight or if somehting else is going on. I have had this problem off and on since getting my band in August but this is the longest I remember it lasting.

The same thing happened to me. Spoke to the doctor and he prescribed medicine for an inflammed esophagus. He said it was stress related. I just started the medicine so I will let you know if it works.

Have any of your doctors mentioned inflammed esophagus as a possible cause?

I think a lot of it is stress related. My life has calmed down and I have been able to eat normally for about 3-days now. No more slime... It is weird how that works.

Ive been having the same issue lately too... its been going on for about a month and a half... heading to the doc tomorrow.. hoping that its nothing serious... really hoping that a bit of an unfill helps relieve some of the sliming issues...

I haven't had a fill since December 2011. All was going along nicely except a little acid reflux. All of a sudden about 3 months ago I started the sliming. I am so glad to see that I am not alone. I was beginning to think I has stomach cancer and was very upset. Thanks for all the good information.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
