Starting my journey (officially)!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I'm loving this site, it has been helpful & encouraging to hear others stories. Here's mine...

So I started the process in January of this year. I originally wanted breast reduction surgery but was denied by my insurance. They said I need to lose. Weight first. So discouraged one of the doctors suggested I look into lap band. I have researched numerous times, but this the first time I set up an appointment with a surgeon. I had the meeting in February and was nervous but excited. I came home talked to my parents and they were all for it, but when I talked to my boyfriend he was adamant I not do it, and basically talked me out of it.

But it has been in the back of my mind for months. I recently was diagnosed with high blood pressure and high cholesterol two problems I've never had before October I made the decision, my birthday was nov 16th which I turned 29 and realized I want to get my health together before I turn the big 3 0.

I called the surgeons office they gave me the phone numbers to the cardiologist, psychologist, and sleep center.

I had my cardio appointment today and was cleared. I also had the psych eval and was cleared. So Monday nov 29th is my sleep center appt and hopefully I will be cleared with that as well.

I am hoping to have my surgery in december....

(excited & ready!)

Welcome!

It sounds like you are on track and jumping through all the necessary hoops to get into bandland. December is right around the corner! It would be great to have a band by Christmas. What a great gift that would be. You'll feel and look so much better with being a normal weight. I'm 51 and now have a normal blood pressure and normal blood fats. It can happen! Obesity is a disease state and the sooner you can return to optimal health the better.

Good luck on your journey!

Thanks for your encouragement Annie! I am ready, just scared about the insurance approval. I've read so many people on here are having issues I hope they don't require the 3 or 6 month diet. That would be a crushing blow. My bmi is currently a 43 so hopefully that will be enough

Welcome!

I think the lap band/ weight loss is a better idea then the breast reduction to start. My daughter had a breast reduction when she was 16 (she was a GG she reduced to a C. she is now 19 and back DDD/F) I think he weight may be playing into this a lot cause we all agree that is just to much boob for one person to get ;) any way if you have to do the diet don't be crushed. Think of it is just one more game you have to play to get to your goal. Plus it will be a basic training for the life style change for when you get the band.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
