So, I'm curious to know from the initial seminar to the surgery date how long did it take everyone to get a date?

I've been putting off going but my PCP has been telling me that I need to go. So, I have my seminar visit on the 13th. I'd like to get the surgery done before the end of the year so I don't have to start another deductible...

:rolleyes:Well it depends on your insurance. Some insurances require a 6month pre-op diet, some a 3month pre-op diet, & not only that some surgeons require you to lose 5% of your pre-op weight before they do the surgery to shrink the liver a littlebit.

I went to a seminar on 10/13/10. Then I had my cardiac clearence with a cardiologist, this friday I have my EGD, Last thursday I had a full lab work-up. I meet with the psychiatrist on 11/11/10 then I meet with the surgeon & have chest x-rays done on 11/17/10. With all of that I am required to lose 12lbs (which I already have) pre-op (this was my 5%). what I did is the day after the seminar I started a diet as if I was already banded.... I have a Protein shake for Breakfast, one for lunch, & a small sized portion of Protein & veggies for dinner & I walk alot. I cut out breads & Pasta & soda. This really worked for me.:) oh yeah I have Oxford & they do NOT require a pre-op diet... yay for that

Prior to attending the seminar, I was in a medically supervised weight loss program for six months. Because the doctor did not chart my medical records correctly, my insurance company required an additional three months of the weight loss program. This was in April. I had my surgery in October. So from start to finish, including all of the pre-op clearances (i.e., EKG, stress test, barium swallow, etc.), it took about six months to have my surgery. The time went really fast and it doesn't seem like six months at all. Hope this helps.

If you expect your insurance company to pay for it your chances of having surgery by the end of the year are slim to none.

Your best bet is to call and ask the insurance company.

from Seminar to surgery was 6 months for me. Some insurances require a 3-6 month pre-op program. The end of october was one year from my Seminar!

I went to my PCP at the end of August and she suggested I think about the lapband to get my weight under control. I went home started to do some research about the surgen she suggested and decieded that this is diffenetly what I wanted to do. I started working on the insurance packet they had one there website and then went to my seminar on September 7. I had my surgery on October 21. My insurance did require 6 months doctor supervised diet but I submitted a list of diets I had tried the last couple of years and they took that. I'm suprised by how fast and easy my process was after reading about everyone else issues with insurance. I wish anyone who has to work with their insurance company good luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
