Sept. 2010 Bandsters !!!

Recommended Posts

welp, day 3, solid food- fish and soft Protein today. it's interesting, this is the first Monday that I got on the scale that I was 1 down from the wed. before. My pattern for like 3 weeks was 240 on Wed. then 242 by Sunday back to 240 by Wed.

this week I weighed myself on Monday morning and was 239. - so finally took something off. and today I'm 238. so going in the right direction. this has been my pattern all along- yo yo for a while then shed some. so anyway about the 5 day test. I hate the liquids, i tseems very similar to what you'd do for a fill. The liquid phase I feel like I take in more calories then if I were eating. funny. we'll see how the solids do me, if I feel a bit tighter, I had a little oatmeal with a Protein Shake for Breakfast. not very solid.

anyway that's what I have to report so far.

Well... I am on the same yo-yo ride that a lot of others seem to be on.. I have continually managed to lose weight each time I weigh in - but my weigh-ins are fewer and far between and not quite hitting that 1-2lb per week quota that they say is the norm... I have found, as silly as this seems - that on the week before I weigh in, I drink 1.5-2 gals of Water a day.. and wear high heels to work.. Haha! I think maybe if I would pull out all of my pre-op information, and actually used their sample menu, that maybe I could "jump start" my metabolism again.. but stress and a 2 year old (some times they are one in the same) tend to make things that one would think would be simple - quite difficult. (sigh)

But on the up side of things.. My weigh in on Thursday resulted in a 7 pound loss.. which brings me to 90 POUNDS!!! (Yay!!) Which brought me to my next goal of getting down to the weight I was when I met my husband... Now.. the next goal is another 10 pounds to meet the "100 Pounds Down".. then the goal after that is to finally hit "Onederland"!! (whoop! whoop!)

I started this thing at 327 pounds, size 26 jeans and a 3x top.. Now I am 237 pounds, size 18/20 jeans (depending on the cut) and I bought my first XL shirt Friday (not a 1X, but an XL - dont ask me the difference, cause I dont know - but the fact there is a standard size printed on the inside of my shirt?!? Man, that feels good!! Now its a matter of getting this skin to tighten up.. I keep a thigh-master under my desk at work..LOL.. luckily no one sees me.. All in time, right??

Hope all is well with my fellow-band-rock-stars!!!

OMG Tiffany, that is so awesome, that doesn''t sound like much of a yoyo. You are rocking it. All of you are. I am still stuck at 60lbs loss. started 296. I've been here now for 2 months. ugg. I have an appt for a fill but not for 2 weeks, and I go on vacation between now and then. I am feeling like the bottom of the heap with weight loss here. at least I have some inspiration. Funny a few months ago I felt like I was at the top. I need to snap out of it. starting today I am tracking everything that goes in my mouth. I did the 5 day text thing, it did tighten me up a bit, but now I feel that I'm hungry all the time.

Tiffany how much do you have in your band now? I also feel like I have more in my band then any of you awesome losers. Makes me nervous that I'm on the wrong track.

I wonder what Ms Joany is up to, If her infection and all that cleared up. I hope she is alright.

Lisa

I hit the wrong button. Let me finish. So I have reached ONEDERLAND. I had my surgery on 9/22/10. This a.m. I have lost 100.5 lbs. Yippee Yippee. I have never felt so good in my life. I can not believe it. Without this lapband I never would have reached this point. I have 30 more to get to my goal. So hopefully I will reach it before my year anniversary. After my last fill on June 7 of .20 I am never hungry I have to make myself eat. I have 5.0 in my band. I just have to exercise more.

I just want to thank you all for your ups and downs. By reading what everyone is going through helped me a lot. It helped me to realize that we all plateau at some point in this venture. So good luck to me.

Congratulations papoose on reaching 'ONDERLAND". I have reached it as well but have once again been stuck. I have lost 65lbs, and I am starting to get frustrated because I am stuck again. I have set goals for my self and have reached all of them except the last one. Not sure what I am doing wrong at this point. I really dont have much to complain about since I have lost 65lbs, and I work hard at it. I bought my first size Medium top in years! That felt great. I think maybe I need to kick it up again with my workouts.

Hi, Lisa!

You will have to let me get back to you on how many cc's are in my band... I will have to ask at my next appointment. Does everyone seem to be given this information at their appointments? My surgeon has never told me the amount of how much he puts in with each fill.. But I am sure he would tell me if I asked, it just never occurred to me, or mattered much as long as the results were showing through.

I am the one who decides as to whether I need a fill or not.. He has had the table prepped for me, and I have told him I am happy where I am, and want to wait it out a little more - or I am quick to lay down and pull my shirt up and tell him to give me the juice! ;) I am thankful that I have a good relationship with my surgeon. He is supportive, but there is no b.s. with him..

Lisa, 60 pounds is an amazing accomplishment.. dont lose sight of that, or dismiss it in any way.. :) I had 30 more pounds to lose than you to start off.. so you and I are probably running just about even. :)

My daily menu is nothing to brag about, because I dont think it is quite right. I usually dont eat Breakfast (bad, I know) sometimes I will drink a Protein shake - but not the ones that are bariatric-surgery approved, I dont believe.. (I drink a sugar free 100 calorie Muscle Milk) lunch I typically eat 2-3 slices of deli cut turkey and 3-4 slices of sharp cheddar (block style) I keep these in my fridge at work... If later on I am still hungry, I keep a jar of Planters Peanuts at my desk and will pour a capful out onto a paperplate, and snack on that - which is bad - because I usually snack blindly.. When I get home, I cook dinner - still trying to appeal to my husband and son.. so its usually a Pasta, grilled chicken, and a veggie.. I eat off the same size plate that I serve my two year old on, and try to invision a "cups" worth of food. Some meals are more dense than others - to where I dont finish, other times I want 2nds.. if thats the case, I try to make the extra helping strictly Protein. I also try to include a bread with my meal - because I know I dont handle "breads" well.. Tonight was Soup & grilled cheese for dinner (we have all managed to be stricken with Strep Throat). So, I had 1/2 a grilled cheese sandwich (made on the George Forman - no oil, no butter) and chicken noodle soup.. I didnt get too far on the Soup as far as eating it. Just enough to dampen the bread to allow me to keep it down, but not so much that it would make it a slider food.< /p>

So, I certainly think my meal planning is in need of a much fresher look and re-vamp.. and I have got to get back to working out.. Whew!

Pooky , I sure understand your frustration, i was banded on sept 17 and to date have only loss 30 and i read on here that others have lost way more and then i read what they are eating and i cannot believe i am not losing better! I also ordered the 5 day pouch test, i have not started it yet till my 5 yr old granddaughter leaves. I had a fluro done 2 months ago and everything looks good and i lost 6 lbs right off but now not able to lose any! So disappointing! I pretty much feel like a failure again at weight loss\

yeah it's funny, I tracked my food the last 3 days, my calories are under 1000, I'm going to try to to get it up to 1200 at least a few days a week, just to mix things up. like 1200 and then a couple days at like 800 and the other 3 1000 which is what i am averaging. But I was surprised, I thought if I tracked I would see that something I was doing was really jacking my calories up. But I believe you can do too small on food - plus tooo much the same too. your body settles in and defends it's fat.

still stuck

course I also have real issues with enough Water, and more excercise, right now I am sort of jog/ running for 4 days a week for about 5 miles total, and then walking another 2 miles with my family (not very aerobic) but I need to kick it up a bit. at least move my body everyday, which I am not doing now.

to clarify, I meant walk/ jogging, LOL, and 5miles for the whole week. don't want to inflate my exercise. I also feel that my carbs are so low that I wonder if my Fiber is lower then it should be.

hey does anyone here know about using the fitday food diary, I just wonder about the percentages etc, it's all based in 2000 calories / day, I'm closer to 1000, so I wonder about if I can change that. do any of you calculate your nutrients based on calories today instead of using the RDA percentages.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
