November bandsters unite!!

Recommended Posts

So last night I tried unflavored Protein mix with the low sodium 33% fat free checken broth and YUM!!! What a pleasant change to the chocolate and vanilla Protein Shakes I have been drinking for the last week and a half! I always liked salty better than sweet anyway! Just thought I'd share! And as of this morning I am down 11 lbs so YAY! I figure I should be able to at least double that by surgery Nov 3. :) Hope everyone who has started the pre op diet is hanging in there! Its tough at first:frown:! But were all getting closer as we wind down these last few days of October!!!!!

I had my presurgical meeting with Dr Geiss's team yesterday....

G, I am using Dr. Geiss. What a nice man, and the whole office is so helpful and supportive!! What insurance do you have? I have GHI. There was so much pre op testing to do! It took about 8 weeks to do it all!!

I have to do 7 days of a liquid diet. But I decided I will start on 11/1, until the day before my surgery, which is 11/10. I may as well get used to it!! The extra few days will not kill me, and I can hopefully lose a little more weight.

Slim, now that is a good idea! I am kind of worried about getting tired of all the shakes. So I will definitely follow your suggestion. Which Protein mix did you use? I hear unjury is good.

Hi Everyone!

Well I am officially a November bandster. The doctor's office called me this morning to and my date is November 15, 2010. Like everyone else I am nervous and excited and scared and every other emotion possible. I start my pre-op diet November 1 and am very nervous about that. Anyway I wish everyone the best of luck as I know you are all sharing the same feelings about this adventure we are embarking on.

Have a blessed day!

Hi. My name is Terri and my surgery date is November 2. I just started liquids yesterday and I have to say it is much harder than I thought is was going to be. My body is not suffering to bad but the head hunger is trying to defeat me bad. I can clearly see now why everyone in my surgeon's office has said to me that they will alter my stomach but they cannot alter my head. I have minutes when I think I can do this and then I have minutes when I wonder if I know what I'm doing. I'm hoping the reward is equal to the struggle. :)

Yesterday I had my anesthesiology and pre-op meeting at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Very thorough discussion of the admission and pre-op process, anesthesia administration, and an EKG, BP, 'light' physical. And a sobering handout on MRSA and other infections, along with a bottle of antibiotic antiseptic scrub that I was instructed to use for the three days leading up to surgery. The hospital is very focused on infection control (yay) so they take this stuff seriously.

So now it's the mostly liquid diet...shakes, a little fruit, a draconian dinner of solid food. I figure it's not forever, and with focus on the end result, I will keep on keeping on.

I'll be interested to hear how others are doing with the pre-op diet program and other tidbits as we progress toward the November surgery dates.

Best,

Deb WS

Hi everybody! I am scheduled to get banded on November 16th. I am so excited. I start my pre-op diet (Atkins) on November 2nd. I also have BCBS. I didn't have to do much of anything because my BMI is so high. I am a married mother of 2. My daughter is 2 and my son is 1. I'm 32. I was always "thick" but never overweight. When I turned 21 I suffered a devasting loss of a good friend/relationship and I drowned my sorrows in Ben and Jerry's icecream and soul food.

I am having the surgery because I want to live a full life with my children. I hope to talk to you all through this process.

Dawnya

Oh yeah November 12th. Got my insurance approval letter today and the surgery is ON. I actually thought that they would deny me. My BMI is just 35. The funny thing is that my surgeon's office said not to lose weight pre-op and I lost 6 pounds. Go figure. Why didn't someone tell me NOT to lose weight sooner and I wouldn't be obese. Very funny.

Good luck to all November bandsters. We need a fun name. Never fat again Novembers? Nice to be thin again Novembers. Bandalistas Novembers (no idea what that means). Best wishes for everyone in November and Let's Gitter Done.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
