October 2010 Bandsters!!

Recommended Posts

I finally got my date today!! Woohoo! Feel like I have been waiting forever. October 18th they offered me the 5th but b/c of my work schedule I could not do it :) I feel so much better though that I have a date and can now make plans, with time off work etc...

Who else is getting banded in October? I think it will be nice to have others to compare feelings and stories with, as we are going through this.

Good Luck to everyone! New Chapter here I come

Woo Hoo!

I just got my date of 10/8 today! (They offered 9/20 but that wasn't enough time to get set-up with work; and I'd miss a lot of work for pre-op, so I chose 10/8 instead -- a long weekend for me already, so I'd use minimal time off from work after the recovery, and am scheduling my 1on1 and pre-op appointments for Mondays, which I dont work anyways - much more convenient).

So, what's the "cute motto" for October?

Op-Tober?

Congrats on your date!

Hey guys! I'm a fellow October bandster. I haven't gotten my date "officially" but the surgery has been scheduled for October 11th.

I like Op-Tober! Or ... maybe something with Halloween? Or about delicious, delicious candy? Oh, I'm sorry. Was I drooling? D:

Hi!

I'm going through Orange Coast Memorial's Center for Obesity (aka Peter Leport's Smart Dimensions group). My surgeon is Dr. Francis.

Add me to the list as my surgery is set for 10/7. Im doing the Optifast Light right now which is tolerable. I figured the steady switch to the all liquid 2 weeks pre-op would make it easier for me. So far, so good. Good luck to all of you.

I'm October 7th  Got work scheduled and now I'm scared oh well!! I'm on my way and not looking back have been planning this since the end on January, 6 month diet plan, sleep testing, blood work, chest x-ray, pych testing and talks, met with the doctor, approval, all sorts of hoops but the time has given me a clear better understanding of what I want. Wish me luck and much love and luck to all of the October bandered!!! :)

Congrates! It is such a relief to have the surgery date. I'm from Oklahoma and my date is 10/20/. I'm excited and nervous both. Thinking of all kinds of questions I wish I would have asked the Dr. about like how often do we have to go back after surgurey. I look forward to getting know everyone and am glad I don't have to go through journey alone. Here is to better health for all:)

Has anyone thought of a good little motto or cutesy catch phrase for us October 2010 bandsters?

My surgery is scheduled for October 7th. Tomorrow (Sept 8) is my pre op appointments and I will find out what I have to do as far as how long on liquid diet.

My friend had the same doctor and got gastric bypass and only had to do 3 day liquid diet. I hope I'm lucky and only have to do 3 days also. Some people here have my admiration that they were able to do liquid diets for such a long time.

Here are some ideas:

Wow PuppyBandit 3 days isn't a long time. Maybe it all depends on the "state" of your liver. My dr told me that 2 weeks is the standard (could be longer if your liver is in bad shape) but never about it being shorter then that. Good luck to you on that.

DonTony: My dr highly recommends his patients to do the Optifast for the 2 wks, glad to know that it isn't bad. Is there two different kinds? I ask because you mentioned doing the light.

I have my upper GI test tomorrow and I'm super nervous...anyone need to get that done also? anyone done it already? Please let me know how it went.

Thanks!!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
