October 2010 Bandsters!!

Recommended Posts

Today has been a bad day for me. I am finishing my third day of my liquid diet and I have found myself super emotional today. I am not an emotional person at all and I do not understand what my deal is!! My surgery is this Friday and I don't know if it is nerves or what. I have never had a surgery before so I guess I'm getting a little nervous of not knowing what to expect. I'm just trying to tell myself how happy I will be in a few weeks when this is all over with and I get back to myself. Sorry for the rant, but it feels better to get it out.

We're all in this together -- Wish I had some magic words to make you feel better but all I can say is hang in there! The surgery part will be over soon and then you'll be on your way.

@lila70 - It's normal to feel all kinda ways right before surgery. I've had 2 previous ones and I'm still nervous about this one. For me it's a "this is it, do or die" type of feeling...not really die but I think you know what I mean. I'm feeling like this HAS to work and I think I'm feeling a little pressure. Not from anyone else but from myself. It's a bit hard to explain. BUT...I must admit those moments are only temporary because I think about how good I'm doing with my pre-op (and you are too) and I reassure myself that I CAN do this. I am POSITIVE this body was given to me by accident (LOL) and now it's time for me to find mine, now I'm finally ready to do so, that's my challenge...and who am I to shy away from a challenge.

You're going to be fine and do GREAT. Just think you've taken the first steps to making yourself healthier and living a better life, surgery is just a major step in your journey. You can do it...no worries. And I guarantee you that after surgery you're going to be like "that was it?"

Hope that helped, tons of luck to you!

It is probably nerves from your first surgery. When they offer you a valium or something to calm you, say yes  some people decline and then wish they had taken it.

I've had 2 surgeries and I have to say it went fine, you are out like a light before you can say boo.

Hi,

I need to lose 6 more lbs, then I can get scheduled. Hopefully by mid Oct I will be ready. Itching to get going.

My nutritionist told me about a local store that sells the Protein Powder, etc. Stopped in there today, have lots go good stuff. Variety of flavors, etc. They have a website too:

wwww.nashuanutrition.com

They have online purchasing and will ship out thier products.

I got samples to try, so when I go on the liquids I will know what I like and dont like.

The manager was telling me that many of thier customers find that their taste buds change after surgery.

October 7th is my surgery date, and I did my pre surgical testing today. It's finally hitting me that Im having this done.

One great thing about doing this preop diet the last month besides weight loss. My blood pressure went down to 130/80. Before the diet, it was 142/90.

The hospital emphasized to wear loose clothes surgery date. I know it sounds obvious, but they told me many people show up in skin tight jeans. The hospital also said that they will have me walk in the hospital every 2 hours up to 2AM. Its mandatory, and she said almost every hospital will do this.

And for everyone that cant handle just shakes. Take my advice and go to My bariatric pantry. They have nectar samples that are sooooo good and the chicken Soup is excellent. Even though Im supposed to have only 5 Optifast shakes and nothing else, my doc ok'd the soup. It makes a world of difference. They ship fast too. I ordered on Friday, and received my stuff Wednesday.

OK....so here I am on day 3 of my pre-surgery diet. I'm sooooo excited for Tuesday, the 5th. I'm wondering something, though....has anyone had a moment of feeling a bit panicked over what its going to be like to be thin? I've been heavy for so long and food has been such a crutch and big part of my life, that I have no idea what that's going to be like. Believe me, I'm not scared of it....bring it on!! But just the idea of losing this weight, once and for all, is overwhelmingly exciting. I don't know...call it a thought for the day...hahahahahaha!!!

Good luck to all of us Boo-tiful October bandsters!!

(ambatch) '...has anyone had a moment of feeling a bit panicked over what its going to be like to be thin?'

Panic for me is failing, not so much how it will be to be thin. That worries me enough so, that I thought about calling the Dr and backing out. My surgery day is the 6th. The liquid diet has been easy. All finished with pre op tests, and ready to go.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
