August Rush in bandland!

I have to catch myself asking my husband if he really needs that extra serving. :) He has about 30 pounds he needs to lose, and I'm constantly bugging him about going to the gym with me.

Hi Everyone. I can't wait till tomorrow for my post-op appointment!! I can't wait to move on from liquids to mushies...I am dying for mashed potatoes and eggs!! I'm not hungry at all...I just want to chew!!! I find myself going through moodswings. I get very irritated easily, and I am usually very easy going. It usually passes fast, but boy I feel like I can bite peoples heads off at times!! I hope when I start eating food and get off just liquids that I will be more myself. The last couple of days I have to admit that I have had a few saltine Soup crackers. They went down fine and ahhhhh so nice to chew, and my moodswings are less :))

Same with my hubby about 30 lbs . they lose it quicker too. Now if he would only try!!! It would make things good for both of us.

Hi I had surgery on August 16th. My surgeon had me on Clear Liquids for 2 days, pureed foods day 3- 14 and regular food, small portions chewed to applesauce consistency. I had so much trouble on day 2 with what was most likely gas pain and swelling that I didn't eat or even drink for close to 4 days. The Dr. took out all of the Fluid in my band on day 4 hoping it would help with me being able to swallow. Now--I've been perfectly fine for two weeks and I'm so hungry. I can eat just about anything as long as I chew it up well. Bad thing is, I KNOW some of it is old habits creeping in and I have nothing that is preventing me from eating. I'm so frustrated and I have 3-4 weeks before they will put in a fill. I initially had lost 35 lbs, but have gained back 5. They tell me my metabolism shut down from not eating that first week after surgery and the weight gain is my body's way of self-preservation. But it's SO hard emotionally to gain weight and struggle with feeling hungry all the time, when you thought, maybe incorrectly, that you'd have some relief from the constant desire to eat. So--I'm looking for some support. If you have any words of wisdom, let me know. I'm pretty discouraged right now.:)

Me too, I got the Zumba DVDs also. I will alternate that between Walk away the pounds and my treadmill to start out with.

I have to make a confession...I'm getting really obnoxious since being banded.

Every time I see a heavy person now I say to my DH or to myself "they need a LAP-BAND®!!"

I have 90 more lbs. to lose myself. I have a lot of nerve!! :)

Dee

It's awful, but I'm doing the same thing!:lol:

I have a lot of the same feelings but you have to keep thinking that this is temporary. I have only lost 1 lbs in two weeks BUT it's only temporary. Once we get our first fill we will be on our way. I also gained when I added mushies and I am adding solids starting tomorrow so I expect I will gain again. I can eat a lot too. I am trying not too over eat but it's hard right now. So, I just keep thinking this is only for a few weeks and then I'll be on my way to losing weight and feeling better.

Keep the long term goal in mind and take these few weeks one day at a time. You can do it.

I'll say it again peeps,

journal......write everything down! What you ate, when you ate, calories, grams of protien, etc. Exercise? Write it down ,calculate how many calories you burned, tally that into your journal too. I have found by doing this, that my weak time is in the afternoon...so I try to hold off of Breakfast until 10:00 or 11:00. That way I only have to wait a couple hours until I can eat again. I try to stay right around 1100 calories with a 20 minute brisk walk in the mornings:cool2:.

All the best

Kelly:thumbup:

I found that my weak time is from 3 -6. Once I make it past 6, I'm not hungry for the rest of the evening. I just have to make it through that rough period.

We all have to look at this for us . It is hard when people judge others. My self esteem gets hit hard if i perceive someone judging me for my weight. Here is what ive told my kids (my oldest being 18) , There is always something or things on your body that someone can make fun of you about, (then i went on to say) I better not ever here you mutter a negative comment to someone about their appearence. Well guess what, It worked!! my kids are kind to everyone , even befriending and helping mentally challenged kids.

If we set our mindset to what i said above , i find its hard to look at anyone and judge them. I could find 6 or more things about me even when i become thin again , id change, so i best not judge other books by their covers.

:)

Hi All,

It's been several days since I have posted. I have gained and lost the same 5 lbs. for the past two weeks. I have to remember to eat slowly and really watch what I eat or I have some real problems that I have to take care of. I have got to remember to take in a load of Protein each day. I have seriously forgotten aleady about the protein. I think it'll definitely help with the weight loss. It looks like everyone else is doing pretty well. My next appointment is October 4 and I hope I get some more Fluid in the band. There was a small amount that was added during during my surgery. Otherwise, I feel really good and ready to buy some new clothes!

:blushing:

I understand what your saying and I think that's a good thing to teach your children...but in our case I don't think it's that serious.

I have been overweight for years and even though I have a lot going for me I know that many have talked about me behind my back and even have made snide remarks to my face.

I would never now or ever have said a mean thing to a persons face or made anyone feel uncomfy. In the past because of my own experience I have gone out of my way to make someone feel comfortable if I perceive they may be shy because of a handicap outwardly or inward.

I am a very generous person almost to a fault. I would never knowingly hurt anyone.

Dee

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
