Looking for September 2010 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Hi guys! I can't believe I am being banded this week!

I like Premier Protein shakes too and their great when I'm out and can't mix my own.

I have created a book of Protein Shake recipes I will be happy to share with everyone. Variety keeps the taste buds happy!

I have been on my liquid diet for almost two weeks and am feeling great! Not to mention I've lost eleven pounds!

I'm back.

The surgery went fine this morning with no complications. Started at 8am, woke up at 10:10am and was leaving by 11:00. The hospital gave me morphine to get me home without getting sick, so I am just now getting out of bed.

The first thing that I learned when I woke up was that my throat was super dry and extrememly sore. So I sucked on a couple of sugar free popsicles which did the magic. The coolness worked perfect and the fruit flavoring coated my throat. So add sugar free popsicles to your shopping list.

Butterfly2010 -- If you find you like most of the flavors, I found that MyBatriatricPantry sells the 10pk samples for $13. They limit the order to 5. But that will give you a big stash of variety. Let us know what flavors you like or dislike.

Wish I had more of an update to share! I am waiting for my new insurance to start Sept 1st and then we will submit -- drs office said if I am approved I could be looking at surgery on the 20th or 21st. Right now I'm just trying to get refocused, it has been hard going from my third day of pre-op diet to eating regular again. I was so mentally prepared at that point and now I feel kind of lost. I will update as soon as I have some news. Hope all goes well with everyone and I will keep you all in my prayers. Take care and God Bless.

New poster here! Just got word yesterday that my insurance approved the surgery, and I am all set to go for Sept. 23rd!

I'm Liz from NYC, and I'm 31 years old. Have been overweight/obese for at least the last 20 years. I seriously started looking into LB about a year ago, but didn't actually make it to a seminar until December. I found out for sure that my insurance required the 6 month supervised diet, and also that the surgeon's office I chose (NYU Medical Center in NYC) had just added this component to their practice, so I was able to do it all in house.

Started the 6 month program in January, completed it in July, and then the surgeon's office submitted me last week.

I start my pre-op liquids (2 weeks) on September 9th, and am planning to use Carnation Instant Breakfast (the powder, not pre-made). It's something I already love, so I won't be throwing away money on something I might hate. Not so sure how much I'll love it after 6 a day for 2 weeks, though

I'm excited and nervous to start this journey, but can't wait! Very glad I made this choice. I started a blog (am planning on writing more often as I progress), and would love to be part of the September 2010 Bandsters!

Hello My Fellow Sept. Bandsters !

I am Brian & I live in Los Angeles, CA. I started my LAP-BAND® journey on Wednesday August 11 and I have a surgery date of Wednesday Sept the 8th. I am about 5'7" and 250lbs. I have been overweight almost my entire life except for a few years in Army ROTC in college.

UNFORTUNATELY my insurance does not cover the LAP-BAND® so I will be Self Pay. It sucks but I figure it is worth it and I desperately want to change my life now and get this weight off once and for all.

My Surgeon is Dr. Michael Feiz of Beverly Hills. He stopped counting his LAP-BAND® surgeries after 1000 and he does 10-15 a week.

I have gone through a general physical, blood work, x-rays, psych eval, nutritional counseling and I have a appointment to be scoped on Wednesday.

Things are going extremely fast and I do have some apprehension at the speed of it all but I also am sick and tired of being obese and want to get on with my life. I have accomplished a lot of my life goals in the last few years and my weight and my social life ( or lack of ) are my last goals left. smile.gif

Soooo glad everything went okay for you; your were our FIRST to go....will you be starting a post op September thread? So many will join you next week!

I got my sample pack with 13 samples from calling the phone number that was posted on another thread. 13 samples for $13 ....not bad! I plan on ordering from mybatriatric, have you ordered regular protein/vitamines from them before? Just hesitant since it is an on-line store....

Again, soooooooooo glad you posted! How are you feeling today?

Hi everyone,

Cathy I'm so happy to hear how well things went- horray

Rebecca would love the recipes.

Love all the other info.

Special shout out to all the Sept 27th bandsters- woot woot.

Thanks all for the sample pack info. My shakes aren't here yet, hopefully today as I want to start on Monday.

Mandy it will happen, and just remember that because of this process you may have learned something important about your heart.

I"m terrified and trying to get excited about starting the preop diet. My son is jealous of my Protein Shakes so I bought him some ovaltine. I bought a scale that will actually weigh me. Monday I go see my regular Dr. for a check up and plan to tell her. I worry I have a naval hernia from my pregnancy 2 years ago and am wondering how that will all work out.

I'm also wondering if I lose weight if I will actually drop less on my shirt. Is it the large chest why so many of my shirts have food stains, or is it eating too fast. Well both hopefully will get dealt with in the next year or two. Also the big fear as I pay attention to my eating this summer I realize I can't believe how fast I eat, it's frightening really, why do I do that and will I be able to stop. I guess if I don't want to feel very terrible and puke or whatever I will.

So many questions

So much unknown.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
