I have fairly long hair and have always shed but ever since the surgery I have noticed it getting worse.

When I am washing my hair, I pull a handful, when I am blowing dry I pull out another handful. Throughout the day I can run my fingers through and it does the same thing.

Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?

My doctor recommended Biotin for hairloss. You can buy it at Walmart or any drug store. Hope this helps...

Definitely be faithful to your Biotin supplements, and also pay close attention to your Protein intake. I started losing some hair as well, and I know it is because I haven't been paying close enough attention to the protein intake. It will reak havoc on your hair.

I have thin hair to begin with, so based on everything I have read on this board (do a search for "hair loss") I have also started taking Biotin.

I am 3 weeks post op and hoping to get a jump on the problem before it really kicks in....

Good luck to you,

kagead

I was loosing some hair and went to the dermatologist. He said it was from the shock your body goes into after rapid weightloss. Much to my relief, he said I would not go bald. It should subside over time.

I have very thick hair and I lost alot of it for about a year after my band. It was so scary and got so bad that I would cry while doing my hair. Luckily I didnt go bald and it did come back better then ever. I spent alot of money on Biotin and Vitamins and also protien shakes. Nothing worked for me but time. It kind of has to run its course i think. Its been 4 years and i still shed more then I did but it is nice and thick again. Good luck to you. It will slow down.

Ugggh...don't get me started about hair thinning. Mine has been terrible and i had long gorgeous hair. I have lost at least half of it..I take Biotin, hair revive 5, lots of Protein, and more junk for it...Nothing helps and I am just like you. Pulling out handfulls daily...Oh well..for me I have come to the realization that I have done every I can, and if it still falls out,,,,then it falls out...Good luck

I was banded about the same time as you and I'm having the SAME problem. I've started taking Biotin, trying to up my Protein but I swear, it comes out in HANDFULS. My husband can't get over how much hair comes out every morning. It's everywhere.

I cried the other day because I swear, you can see where it's thinning at the top but my friends think I'm being paranoid. I asked my niece (who's a stylist) to get me some nioxin the next time she hits the comso prof store. (They can pick it up for you a LOT cheaper than buying it OTC)

Last night I caught myself looking at Rogaine.

Does it stop? Please tell me it will.

I'm just over six months out, and have been losing hair for the last month or so. I've gotten 100+ grams of Protein a day since surgery, have taken Biotin and zinc in addition to my bariatric multi, and have been using Nioxin since before loss was evident.

And still I'm losing.

My stylist says, "Yeah, you can do all those things. They make us think we're doing something." And my doctor agrees, pretty much. The loss is due to an interruption in the Hair growth cycle caused by trauma; in this case, the trauma is surgery.

I'll keep doing the things that make me feel like I'm doing something---and hope that the end is in sight. Right now, I can tell there's been loss when my hair is wet. Others can't tell when it's dry. Hopefully, this is as bad as it will get.

Mine just started thinning, but I've been expecting it, so I'm just going to weather it through.

My hair is pretty thin and fine to begin with, but my current cut makes it look thicker. I've gone through this already once this year in late February, a month or so after I started my 90-day supervised diet. Eventually it slowed down and my hair started to grow back in. I was at about 1100 cal per day during that most of the time, and since surgery I've been at between 800-900 calories per day.

So, yeah, I figured that it would start happening again soon.

I went through it a couple of months after both my kids were born too, in 2004 and 2007, so at least now I'm not quite as devastated about it as I was the first time it happened.

It does come back, or at least it did for me, every time. It's just hard to be patient when you're having to clean out your hairbrush daily or scoop wads of hair out of the drain after every shower.

Hang in there, it will get better!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
