banded in '05, back to the pre-surgery weight...

Recommended Posts

Heyyy. I'm in need of some help. Ready for my story? ..I was banded by Dr. Ortiz in TJ, Mexico when I was 15 (2005). I did good. I remember the excitement when I was finally below 200lbs. I got in the scale, hopped off, and immediately called my mom and told her. It was the greatest feeling ever. She had it done too, so me making it below 200 was helping her. Anyway, that was in probably 2007. Rewind. When I was banded, I weighed probably 275#. It took me about two years to lose 75#s. So, in December of 2007 I got a boyfriend. We got serious, and (not to use it as an excuse) I got comfortable. Here I am, July 2010, I am back to 275#, maybe more. I refuse to get on the scale. I'm 20 years old.

I need a buddy. I do not want someone who wants to tell me to go get a fill or to go get my liquid taken out. Be my friend, not my mother please.

Every night I lay in bed and I think, "I'm going to get up early and work out before work." ..I hit snooze. I have so much motivation at 11pm, but I have nothing from the time I wake up to the time I get ready for bed in the evening.

I'm looking for someone my age (20s) who I can talk to and relate with. Someone who is or has been in my situation, please.

I don't mean to offend you and I'm not judging, I was just wondering what your reasons are for not getting a fill?

Hey Brittany, I'm Sidney currently 21 and 2 yrs out since I was banded. At my heaviest I was around 271 and am currently at 180. My weight has been fluctuating and I know what its like to gain some weight back. And I am the same as you, I have energy at night but never want to wake up early to get the exercise I need. Honestly, in my 2 years of banding I really have not worked out much. I could use a friend too  Maybe we can spark some motivation in each other :scared2:

Carrie, no problem. I cannot get another fill. I am at the max limit that I can personally go. The last fill I had was (I don't even remember when or how much it was), but I had to leave school and make an emergency visit to a doctor in Columbus or Cincinatti. I was so tight that I could not swallow my own saliva. It was absolutely horrible.

Sidney, thanks! Honestly, when I lost all of that weight I don't even remember exercising. I don't even remember what I ate at that point in my life. All I know is that last night I went to bed wanting to work out this morning, I woke up and cleaned my room and got ready, I went to work, and when I got my lunch break at work I ordered a taco salad (thinking I could feel good about it because it has the word "salad" in it....:scared2:).

I need some help, guys.

Yeah, I pretty much eat whatever I want. I have a MAJOR sweet tooth. If I could stay away from chocolate I'd probably be a stick figure lol A taco sald isn't necessaraly bad. It just depends on how much of it you can eat. Does your band give you any restriction or does it feel like its stretched out? I've only had mine filled twice. The initial fill and one this past year. I can't even remember how much liquid is in my band. I still have a problem with guaging how much I should be able to eat. Some things, like chips, I can go to town on. Other things like bread and Pasta can make me feel like i'm choking when I eat them. I guess it's all in how the food breaks down and sits in out stomachs. What is a typical portion and meal for you? I guess in terms of what I can eat... If I had a hot dog, I could eat maybe one or two bites of the bun but demolish the dog lol and possibly have a couple of bites of a side item.

Sidney, that is me too. If I ever go somewhere and order a burger, I rip the top bun to shreds. If I eat the bun, I am in bad shape. Same with spaghetti sometimes. My mom made rigatoni the other night and it took me forever to eat it because I had to take breaks so it would go down. Do you have a Facebook?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
