What if you are on blood thinners?

I have been on blood thinners for 2 years. I broke my foot and was laid up for a few days. This is when I developed a DVT and pulmonary embolism. It appears blood clots run in my family. Lucky me. Anyway, does anyone know if or when they will take me off the pills prior to surgery? I have a preop appt 5/3 at the hospital and preop with the surgeon on 5/5. I will ask then but in the mean time I thought I would ask ya'll.
