Problem throwing away food

Recommended Posts

I have a hard time tossing out the uneaten food, but it is not because I cam fromt he clean plate club as a child, but because my mind tells me that I am still hungry or that I want the food. So I have to throw it in the trash the moment I am full or I will wait a few moments and then try to stuff it in. I never realized what a mental issue I had with food unill I got the band. No wonder I couldn't diet my brain was plotting aganist me LOL

I do! I so understand.

People brought potluck to Easter dinner. I was able to usher most of the leftovers out the door, but desert got left. A Peanut Butter pie and a key lime pie. How cruel is that??? Everyone is aware of my surgery and how hard I am working to eat right. I didn't eat desert at dinner, so WHY leave desert at my house? I actually felt a little pissed off. So, I took my anger out on the pies. I dumped them into my sink with running Water and mushed them into the garbage disposal.

This time, I win!

One day at a time, one piece of food at a time.

Throw it away! Throw it away!

I love your post!!! That's great advice for me and for my child (who I vow will not be a member of the "clean your plate" generation I was in)!!!!!! I might have to add music and make it my theme song for after my surgery!

I think not only the influence our parents had on us as kids is hurting us now (clean your plate before you get up from the table) but also the head hunger. How can I possibly be full, I've only eaten (fill in the blank). I'm struggling with that right now. And I can tell too on the scales.

How do you convince your head that the 1/2 cup or 3/4 cup or whatever amount you should eat is enough? I keep thinking, I'll just take one more bite, and then I'm like, blah! Luckily, I have never PB'd but I know that if I keep pushing my luck, that will change.

I am guilty of bringing home leftovers from a restaurant and then not getting to them before it's time to toss them. I have a couple of containers of chinese food in my fridge right now from last week that I'll have to toss.

Luckily, when I cook dinner at home, I enjoy the leftovers and have bought the small bowls from Ziploc that I then freeze the leftovers in and take to work at a later date. It's great! I just wish I could do that with restaurant food, but it tends not to freeze well.

Someone once mentioned a band for the head. Perhaps we should all invest a little in the research and development of a head band (Ha!) and we can become rich and famous (well, rich at least). And thin.

Im beginning to get into that mind set....Just throw it away. I have kids and tend to eat what they dont....NOT GOOD!! So lately when they say mom I dont want anymore I dont even tell them to save it...i just say throw it out. Ive gotten really full trying to get that last bite in. Its all a matter of habit...this is definately a life change..For Good!

I am so glad to hear you say that, I am 10 mos out and just lately find myself trying to eat too much, dont know why, it comes right back up... So I am having to really watch myself and remember not to slide back to old habits. Weird how our prewired training keeps coming back to haunt us.

I have a real problem w/throwing out food too. It seems the easiest way for me around it is to start off by taking a portion much smaller than what I think I'll need to feel satisfied. More often than not, it turns out to be enough. If I still take too much and find myself full but thinking about cleaning my plate, I just think of my last stuck incident and that keeps me in line.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
