I ate my last meal at the buffet at the Beau Rivage Casino in Biloxi. I ate like I normally would, but didn't overdo it.

As far as pizza goes, I eat it at least once a week. I can eat regular crust, but it is easier to eat thin crust. I don't have my band really tight, because I like to be able to eat most foods. I also eat bread, if it is whole wheat and toasted, biscuits and I eat whole wheat Pasta at least once a week. It all depends on how tight you need your band to be to still be successful.

I didn't so much have "last supper syndrome" as much as I had a "bucket list" I had a list of things I absolutely HAD to eat before my surgery.

But I also do not have a lot of restriction, and I am losing steadily so far. The irony is that I still can eat those "bucket list" foods, just VERY slowly and in small amounts. I eat those foods rarely now, because I need to get my nutrients in, I have only so much stomach space to do it.

What I learned was that the "last chance" mentality was not really necessary, because I don't really miss eating those foods frequently.

I think the band is changing my mind as well as my body, because I am much more concerned about nutrition now. It makes me put my cravings for certain foods into perspective. Now, what I consider "treating myself" is different. I splurge on organic produce and antibiotic-free meats instead of cake and chips. I never thought I would do that, but there it is! :thumbup:

So I am in the question stage of this process. guess I want to understand what I might be getting myself into. Sounds like food choices is a problem. I thought that the lap band came with a regimented eating program that we needed to follow. From the posts it appears that everyone is trying to figure out what they can eat and what they can't. So many questions.

For me, the surgery does not turn off that switch in your head for not wanting certain foods. My nurse has told me I need to understand what I can eat and what I can't. If I tell her I had pizza, I will get the lecture for not eating properly and then she says once in a while is OK if you don't eat the crust. I can't eat items like corn, peas and salad. The skin I just can't get it chewed up enough. You will know it after having the surgery for a while what you can and cannot eat.

For the most part, I follow a good diet and it is up to you to make good choices. Yes you can make bad ones as there are lots of slider foods out there which will cause you not to lose weight. Do I have them once in a while? Sure I do but I can't sit down and eat 3 pieces of pie like I used to. Can I eat a small piece of pie? Sure I can. The urgers haven't went away for me, they are still there and it's up to me to make good choices. On the other hand, we go exercise now almost every day. Couldn't do that before, nor did we feel like doing it when we were 80+ lbs heavier. Now it's just part of our routine.

You're right, so many questions. Good answers, too, if you keep nosing around the site. I like that the post-band program isn't regimented.

Re: the Last Supper Syndrome, I certainly am experiencing the desire for all the things I won't be able to eat so much of, but I'm trying to behave myself. Behaving myself is difficult all by itself, given the rebel that I have been from time to time. But I struggle lots and lots.

I totally thought about this. Of course we all do!

I am ending my first week of what is supposed to be 6 weeks on the shakes - and I am only *mostly* on the shakes this one week. It's getting better. When I 'snap' and want something off the shakes, my choices are getting better.

Last night I wanted chicken wings something awful. But instead had some crackers and some diet chicken salad.

Today this morning I literally turned a blind eye to the leftover chicken wings and had an oat flax wrap with mustard, chicken breast slices and fat-free cheese. Around 200 calories. And had 3 of those before I was done with my 'binge' ... and have been on four shakes since then.

Wow, though, of course everyone thinks about food. We all just try our best. And as of this morning, I'm down 8-9lbs since last Monday.

This is just what I am feeling. I got my surgery date today. And can't keep my mind off of food. Thinking how much I will miss eating whatever and whenever I want. I am prepared, but a little nervous about life without lots of food in it. I get banded on May 6th. This is the first time I've posted here. I've been lurking for about a year. I was thinking of posting the exact same thing that you did. Tonight I ate too much and not feeling real good right now. I think I'll be thinking of food until I start the pre op diet.

BTW how do you all put that weight bar on your posts?

I'm sharing the fears like crazy eek.gif, but I also realize that I'm the most scared before I do something, and once I'm into whatever it is, I'm astonished at what I can actually do.

This is a biggie, though. Definitely deals with core issues. Just gotta keep my feet moving and keep practicing... especially with being gentle with myself the way one is with a baby learning to walk.

I'm making daily baby step goals for myself, and so far so good. I've got a food journal started, I'm walking daily, and sometimes I practice small bites and chew chew chew. Oh, and not drinking with meals. Plus I'm working at finding good foods I like. I've given up sweet stuff.

      On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

        Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

        Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

        I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

        I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

        BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
