Traveling After Surgery

Recommended Posts

I am having my surgery Friday march 12. This will be the friday before my spring break. My family wants to go to dallas for spring break. (That is 8 hours away). Would I be able to travel that soon after my surgery. I would think as long as we stop and walk around to avoid blood clots, i should be okay right?

I am going to ask my surgeon to be sure, but i just want to know your experiences.

thanks.

Are you thinking about leaving the day after your surgery, or a few days after? I wouldn't recommend traveling for the first 2 days- just to make sure everything is ok. You might feel lousy and just want to be at home.

I don't think I would have enjoyed an 8 hour car ride. Especially the seat belt that will go right across some of your incisions. The other issue is your itinerary on your trip. Are you gonna be expected to go sight-seeing and out to restaurants with your family? You may be sore and tired and just want to rest.

I think it will really depend on how you feel.

We would probably wait a couple days. Ya I'm not really thinking about how I'd feel. =

we have family up there and my grandpa is sick so that's why we are visiting, so the most we would do would be driving from hotel to house to nursing home. I guess we will wait and see how I feel. I usually sleep the whole way there so if I can sleep comfortably I'll be good.

Thanks!!

Many people travel long distances to Mexico and other 3rd world countries, then hope on a bus or plane for a long ride home the next day.

It may be uncomfortable but you should be safe.

Definitely ask your surgeon though.

Besides that, why from CC to Dallas? That is backward! You're supposed to go from DFW to CC!

Thats true, my moms friend got banded in Mexico. Good to know.

Lol when you live in CC you'd rather not be here during spring break. It's crazy here. Plus I'm visiting family, I love Dallas!

You might want to think of the pain factor! Will you be on pain medication? I was in severe pain for the first 3 days, but everyone is different. Even riding in a car hurt--pot holes, dips, etc.! Something to think about.....

Good point about pain.

Along with pain meds, have a pillow with you. Everyone is telling me to bring a pillow for the ride home from surgery. So I can hold it against my abdomen.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
