Just started new meds for Thyroid, HRT and sugar.

I am 8 months post band, have lost only about 30 pounds so far. Spent nearly two months sleeping most of the day, then the Dr did some blood work. She started me on Glucophage for sugar/insulin balance, Bio-identical Estrogen (she said my level was basically ZERO!!!!), and also my thyroid level was at the rock bottom of the normal range, so she started me on Porcine Thyroid.

Foot note: I had a hysterectomy 10 years ago, leaving one ovary and have not had to be on HRT yet. Also I was "pre-diabetic" before surgery and took Januvia, but went off of it after some weight loss. (I also got to go off my BP med!)

Can anyone tell me if the addition of these meds (especially the thyroid) will help or hinder my weight loss. I regained about 5 pounds over the holidays. I eat when I don't feel good. I haven't mastered that yet. Any advice will be appreciated!

I am 8 months out and down 56 lbs. For the last 4 months I have been a a new med for my thyroid Synthroid and was so worried it would hinder my weight loss but my Doctor assured me it would not. I just went back for other blood test to see if he needs to increase or decrease dose. I was down 21 lbs since starting meds. I too had a rough time during holidays. So don't worry if anything it should help you lose once they find the right dose for you.

I have been on synthroid for years. The thyroid hormone is only replacing what your body is not making on it's own (like the estrogen). Without it you will gain weight. When you have the right dosage of thyroid hormone, your body will function normally and it will be easier to control your weight. As for the HRT, I started using bio-identicals about 8 months ago. After the first week I felt like myself again. It was and is wonderful. You are going to feel so much better and soon.
