Weight Gain after joining gym?

Recommended Posts

I started working out at the gym last week.

On monday i had gained 5 pounds. Is it possible this is becuase of muscle gain?

I had second fill last week also and food intake was a lot less.

On monday i was looking forward to getting on the scale to see what the gym had done for me. When i saw the # i like to have passed out.

Anyone see this before

Thanks :rolleyes2:

When I weigh at the gym I weigh 4 pounds more then my home scale which isn't a big deal as long as know this and expect it. It is possible you are building muscle and that is the reason for the gain. Be sure you are getting in all your Protein and your Water each day. I'll bet you see a sudden drop next week.

Hang in there, you are doing the right thing for your health.

Forgot to mention......Be sure to take your measurements so you know how many inches you lose. This knowledge is really important for NSV moments :rolleyes2:

It's not possible to gain 5lbs of muscle in a week (I wish it was!). You may have been a bit dehydrated before starting and got better hydrated over time. Different scales weigh differently and you weigh different amounts throughout the day.

Ultimately the number on the scale is meaningless. It's how you look and feel that counts.

Yeah after losing 90 pounds, I decided to hit the gym hard. I go at 5:30 every weekday morning andhit the weights real hard. My diet has not changed but I have added on about 12 pounds or so in 6 weeks. My pants size has not increased and I am getting more compliments so i guess it isn't the weight but where the weight is carried (Arms are looking great)

yes!! That is exactly what happened to me. Granted, I've been going to the gym for about 18 months, but last month, I noticed that my body had started craving meat (protein). So, I obliged and within a week, I’d gained about 4 lbs. Two things clued me in to the fact that it was the gym causing it: 1) I had dropped clothing sizes – down from a woman’s size 6 to a size 4. 2) Pretty much overnight, I could lift more weight and for longer periods without it hurting or bothering me at all.

I have absolutely no clue what caused the very sudden change in how my body reacts to exercise, but I know enough to listen when my body is telling me something, and I figured after 193 lbs of weight loss, it was telling it’s time to tone up

Yes it is true I joined a gym and the second week had a session with a personal trainer and he weighed me that day and it matched my scale at home. The the next morning I was so sore I could hardly walk up and down the stairs from the squats he had me doing the day before and sure enough when I stepped on that scale the next morning I was 3 lbs. heavier. I could not go back to the gym for 4 days I was so sore but my weight returned to the previous weight within a week. So I don't care what anyone says you will gain weight from muscle even if its just the muscle temporiarly swelling it does happen. Lisa

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
