Looking for March 2010 bandsters threads

Recommended Posts

I am so excited and nervous too. My surgery date is March 10th. Right now I am working through my 14 day Pre-op diet. Finished the last of the pre-admission paperwork and testing today. It sounds silly, but I am exhausted! I think it was a stressful day and I just didn't realize it.

Myself and loserbob are going next week. Who else is March 1 - 5?

I too have a date of March 8th. Excited and nervous at the same time. Do you have to do a pre-op diet?

Do you mind me asking what you are taking for your pre-op diet. I have to start mine in 2 weeks for 2 weeks and I'm intersted in knowing what you liked and what you didn't. Good luck and God bless. Eileen

I'm going in on March 1st! I can't believe it's this Monday already! I'm definitely getting a little anxious as this is my first surgery ever. Reading everyone else's banding stories has been helpful.

As for my pre-op diet, it's 6 sugar free Carnation Instant Breakfast shakes per day. I can have up to two cups of veggies, some low sodium broth, or sugar free Jello if I'm still feeling hungry. (Some days I do, some days I don't.)

Is anyone else going in on March 1st?

My pre-op diet is for 2 weeks and consists of up to 5 hi Protein slim fast shakes or bars a day ( I am using Atkins since it is high protein and tastes good). I am also allowed one meal a day of 5 oz lean protein and 2 cups of vegetables. Absolutely no starchy veggies. Also making sure to get in my Water minimum of 48 ounces. Hope this helps!:smile2:

I was given the food I need to eat from the dr paid for by me of course. It is health wise products. It is actually easier for me to know I can only eat out of these boxes. I can have 5-6 packages aday. The food it not horrible I have chicken Soups and pancake mix, egg omelet, bars, shakes, juices, oatmeal, and hot choc. The serving sizes are a lot smaller than I am use to, but unbelievable to me they filled me up. I have not actually felt hungry, but the want to actually but other things in my mouth is hard. I have three young kids so I still have to make their meals.

I have survived 4 days and have only eat 3 baby carrots outside of what I was supposed to. Really proud of myself. 10 more days to go on the pre-op and band day. Did I answer your question or ramble?

I just found out today that I will have my surgery in 4 days, 3-2-10. I have no real pre op diet. Just a light bowel prep the night before and nothing to eat or drink after midnight. Surgery is 8:30, pre-op check in the day before. I have been on a 6 months supervised diet. Oh and I also have a large hiatel hernia that will be repaired at the same time.

Good luck everyone

Where is the thread, I can't see it ?

I have been given a date of 3/8/10. Going through all my testing now. I hope all goes well.

TO MSDV and SANDI!

My date is March 8 also! I start full liquids tomorrow (the 1st) and am both excited and a little scared. My issues now are

1) everyone in the family wants to be there, and that sounds like a circus to me, not to mention that the hospital is more than 2 hours away.

2) although doc has said I can drink coffee moderately, I'm worried about it.

3) surgery fear, of course.

How are you guys?

Dayna,

I have been on Optifast shakes for 3 weeks now and it's not bad. One week should be a breeze.

If you're drinking coffee, try to stick to Decaf. Between the anesthesia and pain meds you may see a little Constipation and caffeine makes it worse.

I have exactly 48 till surgery and I am still not excited. I've become so skeptical that I won't believe anything until I see it. My fear is gone. I was a little concerned about pain but it sounds like it is more discomfort than pain.

Good luck!

Mine is tomorrow!

Ok, I'm actually strangely calm. I am more excited about the end result.

I should be petrified since I've never been under, although I've had 2 c-sections, so I've been through abdominal surgery before...

The pre-op diet was ok. The only tough part was was today when I was on a clear liquid diet. I was SO hungry and lightheaded ALL DAY! Tomorrow should be easier since I'm guessing I won't have much of an appetite.

I can't wait to start the rest of my life!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
