How long did you stay off work?

Recommended Posts

I went to the doctor this morning (yes on a Sunday) and we scheduled my surgery for next Sunday 1/31. I am really excited. Dr. told me that I should stay home for 3 days minimum.

well mine was two weeks ago Friday (1/8/10) but my doctor said that he would see me on my two week follow-up(which is tomorrow) I expect to go back Tuesday. I really feel that I could have gone back sooner as I have used 10 sick days(it would have been 12 but the snow days saved me 2). I'm a teacher but a high school EBD teacher. If one of my students were to go off, they could have easily hurt me because I was in no condition to use SCM holds.

The school said that I could not come back until the doctor released me.(Insurance purposes for FMLA) He will tomorrow and I look forward to going back(even if its on my birthday)

It did allow me to concentrate on eating patterns and walking the track at the Y. I hope to see a 20lbs weight loss tomorrow at the doctor's office if not a little more.

I usually suggest people take a week off to recover physically and mentally. I didn't feel too bad after the surgery and went back after 3 workdays off.

But going back to work (I never told my job, there were TOO many fat-prejudiced people there) I had to choose my wardrobe carefully to conceal my wrap (I wore a binder after surgery which I recommend) and to not irritate my incisions. Plus yes, I tired a bit quicker but I was in no way physically incapacitated. A week is fine, but if you just HAVE to go back in 3 work days, you'll survive no problem.

Good Luck!

I got banded on a Saturday afternoon and went back to work on the Monday 1.5 days after surgery. I am a teacher so it was easy for me as I spend half my day standing and the other half sitting. Even if standing was hard I could sit in class.

It was better for me to go back to work right away because it made me move around more getting the gas out of my system.

I had my surgery on Wednesday morning...I went bowling on Saturday afternoon (bowled a 135). I wouldn't suggest bowling but I had a college credit to attend and I felt good enough to try it and I did fine. I went back to work today and had an accounting class this evening till 8:30p...energy was a little lower than normal but is seemed normal for a Monday coming off a vacation days.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
