Good Morning All!!! I hope everyone is doing well. I have been thinking a lot about the surgery date and am so excited to get it done. But I have had crazy thoughts about dying on the table. Anyone else have these thoughts as well? I have even thought that maybe I should write letters to all my kids incase I don't make it. Please tell me that this is really no big deal. My hubby tells me I have a great chance of being killed in a car accident than in surgery. Is this true?

It's surgery so there's always a risk of death involved but part of the reason we have to jump through all the testing hoops we have to is to make sure we're healthy enough for surgery. I would be lying if I said it hasn't crossed my mind. My mother died when I was 2 due to too much anesthesia during a c-section so it's always in the back of my mind but I just keep telling myself that medicine has come a long way in 32 years and my mother was very VERY over weight and very unhealthy and didn't have the chance to be tested to make sure her body could handle the surgery. Things are much different nowadays. We'll be fine! Try not to worry too much. A little worry is normal. Listen to your hubby and let him keep you calm

Hi Guys,

Post op day 4 and doing great. I really cannot believe how lucky I have been since I have only had minimal pain. Didn't even open the RX bottle for pain, nor felt the need to even take tylenol. I had taken off the week since I have a fairly physical job - am alittle bored! I am on the week one liquid diet - been drinking Water, crystal light, a bit of broth, and some hot tea. I am amazed at the full feeling only drinking 1oz every 15 minutes. I now know that about 6 small sips equals an ounce! Who knew?! I have lost a lot of Water weight - 10lbs (didn't have a pre-op diet). I am amazed at the energy I feel - I thought that I would be SO tired not taking in any nutrients, but it is just the opposite!

Yesterday I went and checked out the 5 local gyms. Through a process of elimination, I found one that seems will fit me well. It is a little smaller and is associated with a physical therapy group and therefore had people of all shapes, sizes and ages. I went on the treadmill for 20 minutes at 2.5mi/hr. Not too bad! The treadmill was pretty cool with a TV hook up for headphones and a fan! Who knew - obviously not me!!!

Thursday is my follow up with my surgeon. I am VERY excited!

Love this board - you guys are great!!!

Cynthia

Hi Finding Me,

I had the same exact worries - as a matter of fact, I had put off this surgery for 3 years because of my irrational fear - and I am in the medical profession! It went a lot easier that I expected. Two of the things that I did on my own pre-op to curb my fears were the following - I went to my MD for a stress test, and I set up an appointment to meet the anestheologist. The stress test made me realize that even though I was very over weight, my heart was healthy. Meeting the anestheologist also calmed me knowing how many bariatric cases she had done (one on an individual at 700+ pounds) knowing what exactly to expect and what drugs were going to be used.

It was much easier than I expected. I know how hard it is to quell your fear, but it will be okay.

Good Luck!

Cynthia

So excited to hear that everyone is doing ok post-banding! :) I'm on day 2 of my pre-op diet and let's just say that I am definitely going through a carb detox. Some times after I "eat" (or drink in this case) I think my stomach is trying to eat itself. LOL! It cramps and gurgles and eventually calms down. My body is like "WTH???" But, I've managed to fight off wanting to have real food. I ended up going to bed early last night to keep from wanting a snack.< /p>

Of course, right now I'm battling a nasty cold. I've been coughing like crazy. Hopefully it doesn't affect my surgery date. I have two weeks to get better. I'm SURE it will be gone before that.

So, how much did everyone lose on the pre-op? One of my friends was asking me and I was like "I have no idea". I do know I was 6 lbs down from my last appointment. But, I was also sick before yesterday.

:) Well, here it is 1 day before my surgery.... I have to report to the hospital at 11:30 tomorrow and I can't wait. It seems like I have been waiting forever!

I get very teary eyed thinking of this wonderful opportunity I have to finally feel in control of my eating. But more than that I have the opportunity to become healthy!

Good luck to everyone having surgery tomorrow, I know there are a few of us. :)

Hi All,

First off Congratulations to everyone who has been banded so far this month!! Second sorry I've not posted or responded in a few days. My darn internet was out until last night!! I can't believe how much i depend on the internet......its crazy sometimes!!! This pre-op diet is the hardest things i've ever done. I do not like the Muscle Milk, but i am drinking it because I got the industrial size from costco!! Also I have to take liquid Iron and that is so nasty I put it in the shakes which makes them taste even worse!!! Anyone have a suggestion for a more flavorful Protein Shake?

Good morning once again. So after my little moment of anxiety yesterday. My son made me realize, without even knowing it, that I HAVE to have this surgery and stick with all the rules!! Last night my 5 year old son brought me a picture he had drawn for me. It was a picture of me laying in bed and him bringing me a book to read. Sweet right. The sad thing is that I spend most of my time in bed. If I am not doing the cooking or the cleaning. We lay in my bed and read at night and color or watch a movie. It is always my husband that takes the kids outside to play. I hardly ever go because it makes me so tired to chase them around and then I am embarrassed that I catch them. I did play a little T-ball with him over the weekend and that kicked my butt. It was fun though and I am looking forward to doing more things with all three of my kids with the more weight that I lose. Tomorrow starts my pre-op diet but I have been doing Protein Shakes for Breakfast for the last two weeks and started adding them for lunch this week. Now I will just have to cut out the 2 high Protein Snacks per day that I ahve been eating and just stick to the liquids, jell-o, and SF popcicles. Have a great day everyone!!!

Hello All ) this is the first post after surgery. It was 6 days ago. The surgery went well. I have been feeling crappy but that is due to surgery in general, but feeling better each day. I am doing well with the liquids much better than I thought. The only concern I have is there is stabbing pains when I take a deep breath. I will see the Dr. on Friday maybe I can find out then. Take Care to all.

From what I hear, muscle milk is one of the tastier shakes, but I can't say because I haven't ever tried them. I know that they are a bit more carbs then I'd care to take in so I drink 0 carb Isopure, which is horrible, but I mask it with coffee in the morning. I drink GNC WHEYBOLIC EXTREME banana cream with only 4.3 carbs and 40 Protein for lunch or supper, depending on what time I have a meal.

I really like the banana cream flavor a lot, and I blend it in the magic bullet with ice and it seems a bit more palatable like that.

Glad to have you as a March bander.

I am doing well everyone. So far the hunger thing is stil on control. I have lost 16 lbs since I started my pre op diet two weeks ago. I lost 8lbs since they weighed me after surgery! I am excited today was pureed staged, I move onto minced tomorrow. I had some heart healthy Tomato sauce, with a dollop of fat free ricotta cheese for lunch. And for dinner I had steamed/sauteed broccoli (I had no trouble eating it, cause I like my broccoli like mush) and a fat free mozzerella string cheese. I was stuffed. And of course this am I had my Protein.< /p>

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
