Spring into March 2010 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone...good evening, Hope all is well with everyone.

Kulzhawkrulz.....

is this right? Im sorry if it isnt as.....I cant see the SN on reply posts. Ill get it right eventually. Promise.

Glad you posted!! We seem to be getting banded the same week.....you before so you will have to let me know how it goes....lol. Until then we can support each other!

You seem to know exactly what you are doing and are determined to see it through...AND AS YOU SAID....your SO will def come around when he sees your new you!! How are you children about all this? My daughter is scared of all the pretests and consults she thinks Ive got some diagnosis and is not telling her everything....it does seem some what scary to see someone going to see so many doctors for a consult...

Finailly I let her come with me to the surgeon and he laid her concerns to rest. She really liked him....

he is cute and charmimg lol doesnt hurt.

Today, My daughter baked her first homemade cake um twice. I gave her all the ingredients she needed and laid it all out and went to work. On the phone I walked her though the recipe and had the babysitter supervise and make sure she was doing everything right and they were! It was me...I gave her a container of what I thought was flour but was actually confectioners sugar. oops.

The babysitter obviously hasnt done to much baking....as she didnt notice anything weird or a little strange when the batter looked more like frosting as opposed to cake. My daughter phoned me three times.....while it was cooking after 1/2 hour saying it wasnt looking like cake...I said let it cook some more.....after 40 min...I asked the babysitter what it looks like and she said...it looks like a molten lava of chocolate. hmmmm I said...take it out and dont eat it...Ill be home soon.

When returning....I looked and said....you put in flour?? They said yes....hmm then I looked at the container of so called flour I gave them...and opps...not flour! Now, I understand the need to label containers when there are going to be others cooking in my kitchen!!

This should have been a sign that we shouldnt be making cake with sugar and flour...however, its a Holiday this weekend so we are having guests...

needless to say we will be doing a do over tomorrow and Ill be here. lol

well....have a good night all.

Tomorrow I need to phone the pulmonologist to see whether the CPAP came in so I can start my six weeks with it to get clearance for surgery.

I need to phone the Endocronologist to see about the lab reports and make sure all is good.....and get that letter of clearance, and to phone the psychologist because as of yet his report that he said he would mail....didnt come..suprise, suprise. (not)

I seem to be spending more time chasing people to get those reports/clearance letters in. I hope this is the hardest part of this whole process!! My second consult is on Feb. 3rd. and Im supposed to have everything in before..otherwise they might push back surgery....once again.

welll. Have a great night all and a great week

Jodi

Hi I am being banded March 12, 2010 and the time doesn't seem like it is flying by fast enough, but I know it will be here some day

I'm 38, mother of 2 boys, an LPN in nursing school as we speak to get my RN. On November 6th, 2009 I herniated my L4 disc and have been in and out of agony ever since. My doctor suggested I take off at least 100 pounds, but told me that it would all have to be done by diet or at least until I could get the pressure off my spinal nerves, yeah RIGHT!!!

Anyways, all I am waiting on now is for my income tax return to get here as I am flying in to El Paso and going into Juarez MX for my surgery to be performed by Dr. Jose Rodriguez as I do not have insurance and his reputation seems pretty good. I am using BeLiteWeight to facilitate my surgery and they are very nice.

My biggest problem with my weight seemed to come after my children were born and I had double oopherectomy operations after tubal pregnancies. I just started racking up the weight until I am so out of shape, my metabolism is shot, and I can't seem to get it off. My weight gain is making me hurt everywhere and I am to the point I won't look at myself in a mirror anymore.

My S.O. is a little reluctant and thinks I might leave him after I lose the weight, but with reassurance he is actually starting to get excited and showing me a lot more support. My family, who is all in the medical field, are very hard headed and continue to believe that I should just eat right and exercise and it will come off and feel that what I am doing is a bit self-serving and I could use the money somewhere else.

I will be very happy to join the March-banders and wish each and everyone of you the best of luck!!

I am really really sorry...I did get it the SN wrong..I am so sorry!

I have two sons, one is 19 in February and he is very excited that I am going to be losing weight and as he puts it "it's about time!"

My 14 year old is very supportive and moved schools recently and joined the weightlifting class there and actually is wanting me to lift weights with him and teases me all the time about drinking Protein shakes for muscle mass

My S.O. is coming around and I think is very excited about the proposition of a new woman lying next to him, and I'm not meaning another woman

I just can't wait to get started, but at the same time, it seems like there is a lot for me to prepare. I have been ordering different Protein Shakes over the past few weeks and stock piling so that I have what I need when I have to start the pre-op diet and for the weeks after surgery.

I found out from the girls in nursing school that they've got my back, as far as lifting, when I come back to school after Spring Break, so that is very reassuring. I was worried about my school telling me "sorry but if you can't lift, than you'll have to wait until next semester to finish up!!"

Right now it seems like I'm just waiting for all of my funds to come in so that I can get things together, and so far the income tax return isn't here, but it should be soon and the process of getting things sent in, tests done, and finalizing my travel arrangements will all come to full circle.

Anyways, I hope that all of us March bandsters can keep in touch and share our experiences and offer each other support, because it definitely is needed.

I finally got my approval, YEAH! Spoke to the Doctor's office (already had consult) and they will not schedule me for surgery until I see the nutionist and the nurse is diligently trying to work me into the schedule. I know the dtr is about 4 weeks out, so if I see the nutrionist in 2 weeks then it will be the middle of March that I can probably say I will have the surgery done.

I have learned so much from this website, and will continue to use it as a tool for the balance of my journey.

I will be having my surgery in Champaign/Urbana IL at Carle Hospital with Dr. Oliphant doing the surgery.

Is there anyone else from Champaign/Urbana area doing this also?

Yea you! Glad to hear that your pretty much on the way!

As for as the nurtritionist and psychologist they were also really busy and booked for about a month when wanted to see them at the center..so needed to find someone and theirs did not take insurance anyways...

so, I just picked one from the list of providers on my insurance plan which is oxford and started calling the numbers closest to where I lived...and asked "do you do consults for the lap band who had the next apt available closest. lol

Turns out I liked the one I picked and am now seeing her on a reg basis.

I did this for the psych eval as well...as far as the other consults that involve med tests etc I went to whom my surgeon recommended. food for thought.

Glad you joined......

Hi Everyone,

It looks like I will be a March Bandster as well. Just got my insurance approval letter on Saturday (took a year with CIGNA), boy did they put me through the hoops.

I called the surgeon's office this morning and the office gal was busy scheduling other surgeries so she is going to call me tomorrow. I'm not telling anyone I'm having the surgery. I also plan on only taking 3-4 days vacation as work is very precarious right now and we may be having lay-offs later (another reason to do this while I still HAVE health insurance).

Reason I am having the surgery is HBP, diabetes, high cholesterol. I'm 5'5" 209lbs. I had gotten down to 201 before Xmas but have been stress eating like crazy this month.

Nice to see others will be in March as well! good luck to all!!

Hi all...nice to see all the new people joining us March bandsters...

It has been such a crazy week for me....I got my CPAP machine last wednesday and it seems that I am so nurvous that Im not using it correctly that I keep waking up every so often to see that the mask is on right.

I hope by the end of this week things will get better because I could really use some sleep. lol

I found out that my clearance letter from the endocronologist had faxed a letter to my surgeon without sending me one...so ive been hounding him to send one and he allready had....on the other hand I thought the psychologist sent his letter and he didnt....when all this is over the hardest thing about it better be this process of getting all these consults. l

Wednesday I finish the two week Prev Pac...ive been sick to my stomach from not just one antibiotic but two. This Hpylol bug best be dead by the time the treatment is over....wednesday...or I will just scream.

I thought I was finished with all the tests and consults and I found out that I might need a echocardiagram and stress test because im older then 40...but my cardiologist didnt think it was necessarary...I think ill let him and the surgeon figure it out and just let me know what to do when they do that!

Going to a support group this Thursday...patient education group....before hand, that should be interesting.

After this all......and not sleeping.....im tired!!

so im going to sleep...I hope all is well with everyone and things go smoothly with all consults, insurance glitches and tests for everyone.

have a great week.....

Jodi

Hi,

First off I want to say that this has been a very informative site. I have been reading the posts and am thankful for the information that everyone has posted.

I am scheduled for surgery on March 12, 2010. I atteded the seminar in November of 2009, Had my first visit with Dr. Fox on December 14th. I had to gather a lot medical information which was pretty easy. I had my psych consult, and had my sleep test done. I do have mild sleep apnea, but will not effect my surgery date. On Feb 23rd I will have the remaining test (ekg's, pulmonary etc.) March 4th I will meet with the nutritionist and begin my 10 day liquid diet....can't say i'm looking forward to it, but it will be just fine. I look forward to more posts from the March Bandsters.

:(

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

      2. Selina333

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

      3. Doughgurl

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
