And i was wondering when the fun (lol) weight lose begins.... I am also scarred to eat and can barely get all the fluids they want me to get in . has anyone expirienced this?

I was just banded on Jan 8 and I feel the same way, I have read and reread all the informational packets that I have received and I am still not sure what exactly I am suppose to be doing. So far I have been drinking about 40 ounces of regular or flavored water, at least one protein shake and I have been trying to get some broth down as well. I have taken a couple of spoonfuls of jello but thats it...

I am 3 days post op and I feel the same. Its hard to drink all you need to.

I have been doing the same. Broth, water, some protein shakes, popsicle and even some yogurt.

At this stage you really should be having 3 protein shakes a day because on the liquid stage you aren't getting that much protein which is what keeps you from being hungry. Try increasing that. Also try some sugar free ice pops. They will help you to get your fluids in also. They are my lifesavers. You should be consuming 4oz of fluids every hour. I know it seems hard to get the fluids in but you will get used to the routine. Make sure that you stick to the plan that your doctor gave you.

I was also banded on the 7th, but no one told me a certain amount to drink/eat. I am on a full liquid diet, but there was no guidance as to an amount. I'm sipping water or diet juice all day out of my sippy cup, eating broth or protein shakes for meals, and chasing my nasty antibiotics with fat-free chocolate milk!

You should be consuming 4oz of fluids an hour. You should be able to drink a shot glass of Fluid every 15 minutes until the 4oz is gone. If you have problems set a timer and in that 15 minutes make sure you have consumed that much of fluids. If you are drinking ff chocolate milk then you should also be drinking 4oz of Protein Shakes a day too to keep you from getting hungry and to promote healing. Also try sugar free Ice pops. They will help you with the fluid intake.

I was banded on the 6th and I am h-u-n-g-r-y. I have no problem with my shakes, broth, V-8, yogurt, pudding, Jello, or cream of wheat or cottage cheese (both thined down with milk). I do get adequate liquids, at least 64 oz. and I do not have to just sip ... I am able to actually take a drink.

It must be the "head hunger" I have read about but I'm too afraid of the consequences to do anything that I shouldn't.

I feel no restriction at all. I know the band is deflated, but I thought the irritation from the surgery would cause some restriction.

I was banded on the 8th and am also feeling no restriction at all, I am able to take sips just as big as I was prior to surgery. I am not really feeling any hunger though which is good. I was on a clear liquid diet for 48 hours post-op so today I am able to start my full liquid diet. I am actually scared to since I am afraid I will stop losing weight or gain some back by moving up to full liquids...So far I have been losing about a pound a day.

I was banded on 1/4 and am not getting in enough liquids. I am not eating much but am able to get down what I do eat (full liquids - pudding, Jello, cream of wheat, ect). I am trying to keep a Water bottle so I know how much I am drinking each day but I know I am still not getting enough in.

I do feel hungery and I eat a little when I feel my stomach growl and stop when I feel full (which is usually about 3/4 or less per meal).

My only problem is that everything I eat runs right through me. I can't find a solution to the problem and I don't want to run to the bathroom every hour when I go back to work tomorrow.

Anyone else having this problem and found a solution?

Welcome to Band Land!! The weight loss will start happening in earnest after you get filled to decent restriction.

You are going to go through something called "Bandster Hell" before that happens, but don't stress about it! Basically, you'll be able to eat and will be hungry before you get to restriction. I gained 5 lbs during that time. . but cut to today and I'm less than 10 pounds from goal. Those pesky Bandster Hell pounds are loooong gone!

Hi guys and gals -

I, too, was hungry pretty close out of the gate, and had some issues with the trots....but found that if I added a drink flavor with some Fiber in it, I wasn't quite so hungry and it firmed me up. I wasn't able to eat any Protein in the first week because I was on Clear liquids, so that's how I got through the week. Second week is easier with the ability to eat some thicker stuff, but adding Protein powder definately makes it more do-able.

My 2 cents.

I had my surgery on Friday and by Sunday I was starving! My dog was looking pretty tasty. Lucky for him he could move faster than I could!

When my surgeon called on Monday morning I was doing so well that I was moved up to mushies.

Everyone reacts differently during the post-op phase. Most important is to get the fluids in and stay hydrated.

If you feel ready to move on quicker in your post-op instructions, you can always call your doc and tell them you are hungry and ask to proceed.

Hello - let's see if I remember...I was banded a year Feb 09. I remember drinking the shot glass of water every 20 mins or so..whatever ur packet of ino instructed..and liquids. I took the week off from work so I could heal and rest. I remember sleeping a lot - the medicine helped. After the first week, I started eating regular foods..slowly but carefully. Not too fast - I did have an incident where I ate too fast and felt like I was going to die..it was stuck. Then after that I continued to 'heal' and as I did I could eat more and more. It took a few months before I could understand what restriction was and meant and for me to lose any weight. I was so glad I hadn't told anyone about the surgery bc I was embarrased I hadn't lost more weight. But I fol'd dr's orders and fills and appts...it's a bit of a 'trial' but well worth it. I am thrilled to have lost 85 lbs..yes wish it were more...but still glad. Keep on truckin' Hang in there!

I also was banded on 1/7/2010. I am unable to drink all the fluids they required so just drinking as much as I can tolerate. I have not been hungry at all. I have however had substance/ wanting to chew withdrawl.

I have lost 10lbs so far and I don't know what is normal in the first 6 weeks prior to fill. The paper work the DR sent me home with implied that you will lose for the first 2 weeks and then your hunger will come back and you will be able to eat more. The paper work said that you are to maintain your weight loss until you get a fill. I suppose each person's experience is different.

I am so glad I found this thread. I was banded on 01/06/2010 in the Dominican Repubic. My doctor really didn't give me a lot of instructions other than to drink lots of liquids. I went to a seminar in Jacksonville Florida (where I live) and the doctor who gave the seminar said after a day or so of liquids, he recommended his patients start eating normally. He said too many people go overboard on the cream soups, grits, ice cream etc. and actually gain weight. What gives? I am very worried my band is working at all. I feel as though I can eat as before and don't feel a thing. HELP!!!!
