going from band to sleeve in 3 weeks, any advice
Hi Newbie! I am in the same situation. My band has failed(slip and dislocated tubing) and I am getting the sleeve. My doctor said he could fix my band, but there was an 85% chance it would slip again. I just don't want to take that risk. I am not getting much support either from those I have told. I am not discussing it with others anymore because I can't stand people WITHOUT weight problems telling me why my decision is wrong. Why are people so negative when I am just trying to get well! I am so glad to hear of so many successful revisions! This forum has been such an great support for me as no one else knows what this is like but us!

I'm not telling another person about my sleeve!!!
I made a HUGE mistake telling co-workers about my surgery. I kind of had to because my doctor requires three weeks off for a revision in most cases. I am just a little sick of thin people telling me that I can just lose weight with exercise and diet. Ummm....no. I was working out at one point EVERY DAY taking spinning class, yoga, etc. and hit a plateau. I have had weight problems since I was young, too. I just tell them now that I am having my lapband taken out and that is it. I don't mention the sleeve and refuse to talk about it. It's just not worth the frustration!

What causes leaks?
Can anyone tell me what causes leaks in the sleeve? Is it surgical error or can the patient cause them by not eating correctly after surgery? I just am trying to learn all I can before my revision. Thanks!

What made you decide to switch from the band to the sleeve?
There are many with band issues. I did manage to lose 70, but put 25 back on when my tubing cracked. I will probably continue to gain all my weight back if I don't do something. I won't lie that I'm a little scared about this surgery, but I have a very experienced surgeon and the support of my sleeve friends here. December needs to hurry up so I can stop worrying and just do this!

Scared silly
I have been feeling the same way. I have been feeling guilty because I worry something will go wrong. I have three precious children and I can't help but to stress about major complications. AHHH! It is driving me crazy! I wish I didn't have to wait until December.

Getting so scared
I completely understand. There are times when I think, "WHAT AM I DOING???" It is so hard with revision because we have already failed once. I am so happy that we get a second chance with our sleeves. Stay positive! You can do it! Keep us posted and I can't wait to hear about all the weight you will be losing~

pre surgery jitters
I feel the same way! I will more than likely have my revision in December. It is scary for me mainly because I fear the recovery. One thing I have done is to watch the Youtube videos about people who have had the sleeve. It is really neat to watch their weight loss and also to see what difficulties they have had. I feel more prepared and motivated to go through with it! We either have two choices, stay miserable and fat or move on to a new life!

Hi everyone
Welcome! Congrats on your success!

Amandas Journey
Congrats on your decision to get healthier! Please do some research on long term effects of the band. I am one of the failure statistics and I am in daily pain as I wait to get this thing out. If your band slips or your have to have revision surgery, the recovery really isn't that much shorter. Good luck with your decision! I have found this forum to be such a source of great information and support.
