Questions for sleevers further out
Thanks. I expected my arms and stomach but am shocked about how much loose skin on my thighs and butt.

Hair Loss
Hi, This was one of my biggest fears because I have super thin baby fine hair. I took biotin and collagen started them a month before surgery and have been using Nioxin shampoo and conditioner and never lost mine. There are several reasons for it the anesthesia can cause it, not enough protein and vitamins, and the stress of rapid weight loss the body goes into starvation mode once it does that it cuts back on feeding nutrients to the less important areas of the body like hair, nails and skin. It does grow back. It typically happens within the first six months of surgery.

Anybody Watch Ruby?
Hi, I have a good friend who us heavier then I was and has high blood pressure, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes and kidney damage. Having WLS was originally her idea. After going through Kaiser's option classes all she heard were negatives. I got sleeved right after she decided against it. We see each other often eat out together with our husbands. I am 6 1/2 months out now and have lost 65 pounds and have had no issues. She does not want the sleeve. We went out to lunch with a friend of ours she is scheduled for hip and knee replacement and can barely walk. Her husband has been pressuring her to lose weight. She doesn't want a sleeve. I don't get it if our roles had been reversed I would get mine in a heart beat! Denial? Food addiction? Then again it is a ^major^ decision and does require commitment.

I am not changing my mind
Loou, I am a major coward I will probably spend the rest of my life never knowing how in the world I found the courage to go through with. In the end I came to believe that one way or another I would end up in the hospital in pain the real question was whether I'd be there for the sleeve or some weight related issue. The decision was easier then. And now 6 1/2 months post I can say without any hesitation that it was the best decision I've ever made. Good luck.

To track or not to track - that is the question!
I have heard that you lose the weight a lot faster during the first six months I don't know but I had been in a long stall over six weeks and then suddenly dropped five. I don't track all the time but I try to stay mindful of what I eat and will mentally go over what I ate that day before going to bed. Traveling is a challenge for me it is so hard to plan ahead when I went to Alaska I came home with deficiencies. We are going to Disneyworld in Dec and I am a bit worried about it.

Surgeon says I should stop eating like a baby
At two months I would have gotten sick too and I started on meats at week 5. Even today at 6 1/2 months I'd have issues eating that. With a bun I might eat 1/4 to 1/2 without I eat around 3/4 of the patty. Chopped meat and dark chicken meat without the skin are the easiest along with fish. Next time you try meat eat only 1-2 ounces and only the meat and see if that is better.

Questions for sleevers further out
Hi All, I was wondering about other 50 something sleevers who are a year or more out. Did any of your skin bounce back? How far out were you when you reached the point that any snapping back that may occur is done snapping?

Sick. Sore throat, and low grade fever
Load up on Zinc, airborune and Zicam rest and push fluids. If it is on its way out they will probably still do it.

Surgery Complication Insurance
Do you have medical insurance that won't cover the sleeve? Technically they have to cover some of the complications.

The Diet Coke Debate
Hi, I quit the day before my surgery last Aug. I have had it a few sips here and there it makes burp a lot but beyond that no problem but also no interest.

question for you post sleevers
Mine is gone too it was the first thing *I* could see and feel on my body. I never thought I would because I had had mine forever.

Do you spend less money on food now?
Yes and no. I buy less but I also buy better. I think over all I am maybe spending just a little less.

NSV we all just got.
The only thing I wished he had done was do the whole episode on it. The woman was struggling a bit with the new her she had always identified her self as the big loud fat lady and now she needs to start looking at herself differently. One thing that was funny is that she had told her hubby that she did not want him to gush about her new body so he wasn't even though everyone else was and she was mad at him for it! He said "I married you at 320 because of who you are not what you looked like" what a guy!

Pounds to Drop a Clothing Size
Oh I forgot to mention that you lose differently after the sleeve then you do with diets. Losing 30 lbs pre surgery barely shows while post everyone notices.

NSV we all just got.
Hi All, I was watching a repeat Dr Phil the other day and he gave us all a NSV. He was talking to a woman who had had WLS didn't say which. She was over 300lbs before and looked to be well in onederland. Dr. Phil said at one point "A lot of people think having WLS is taking the easy way out. I know that the opposite is true. There is nothing easy about it" Nice to hear.

Pounds to Drop a Clothing Size
Age is a factor too if you are older you will not have the same amount of normal fat pads then you did when you were younger. I am 20-25 lbs more then what I was in my twenties but I can actually see bones I have never had seen before. Also the younger you are the more your skin will be able to shrink down and hanging skin does add a bit. I am 54 and have lost 62 lbs I was 200 and am 5'2 I have gone down 5 almost 6 sizes down. Hope this helps.

feeling blue
Thanks Sleeve sisters I think it is in part having to get rid of so many of my favorite clothes and realizing it all at once. And I am having a problem wrapping my brain around the fact that weighing in the low 140s now is a whole lot different then it was 20 years ago.

feeling blue
Hi All, I am having a bit of a pity party here. The sag-age is really getting to me. I expected the bat wings and they don't bother me nor does the loose belly and back flab but the flab on my thighs is a whole another matter when I walk it flaps and waves from side to side. I thought that my butt and legs would not change they were toned with good muscle definition before surgery I did not realize that there was so much fat and now it looks like I am wearing a skin coat two sizes to be every thing is wrinkled my forearms my thighs, my butt and when I twist side to side everything from my neck down wrinkles up. My skin looks all crepe like a 90+ old lady. Then there are my clothes I was trying on some of my favorites that had been tight 60 lbs ago make me look like a 12 year trying her mom's clothes. I started making a pile of the ones I'd want to try and have altered and just got so overwhelmed even clothes like summer tees and shorts that I thought I could get away with are not going to fly. Good lord even my underwear barely holds on to my hips. I should be happy but I am not not sure why.

VSG Regrets?
I am 7 months out and yes there are some negatives like today pulling out clothing that use to be a tad tight but wearable trying them on thinking they'd fit great now only to have the shirt and shorts fall down, a one should blouse that hung so low I was in danger of having a Janet Jackson moment and a sweather the DH use to think looked cute looks like a sack....oh yes terrible negatives! Nope! No regrets here.
