Just wondering if anyone has or has had regrets getting VSG? I'm scheduled to have VSG in 2 weeks and I am so excited but also want to hear if anyone wished they hadn't done it and why? Thanks!

hey , i havent had surgery yet, but ive seen posts askin about regrets before... it seems like 99% of the people's only regret is not having it sooner

Ditto to what XXM4NDAAXX said. I would avoided a lot of misery and pain if I had done it sooner.

I am 7 weeks out and have NO regrets. There have been challenging days. But well worth it. Its no easy fix and you still have to put in the work. But the vsg is a wonderful aid and makes it obtainable.

No regrets AT ALL!! band to sleeve revision & I'm 16 months post op. Wish I would have gotten it sooner!!

Absolutely NO regrets with the sleeve. I LOVE my sleeve. Now with the lapband, that's a different story. LOL

The first week/week & a half, I had 2 meltdowns and wondered WTF I did to myself. I'm about 9 weeks out now and I'm down 48 pounds. I've never lost 48 of anything before. I wish I had done it sooner. That's my only regret.

Once you see yourself shrinking and losing weight, once you see yourself having amazing NSVs that are personal to you... it makes adapting to what life is going to be like much easier. It makes it all worthwhile & justifies itself I guess you can say. In the beginning I think it's hard to digest (haha) what we've done because we haven't seen any dramatic changes in weight/body yet plus we're coping with a lot of losses (foods, cokes, etc) and we see this very long road ahead of us that just seems.. super long. The diet plans in the beginning seem crazy but they eventually become second nature. Life starts to feel normal again after awhile. You'll see Sometimes I feel like it sucks that I can't have more than a bite of this or that in a social setting but when I look at my friends (who are all heavy people) scarfing it down for me... and I catch my husband checking out my newly shrunken badonkadonk... it makes it easier. It's insane how much mental control we have over what we ingest now. Before... poweless to foods siren call. Now? I can do this. Good luck!

Like everyone else, I only wish I had had the opportunity to do it a decade ago. It is by far the best thing I have ever done for myself. I truly recommend this to anyone who is obese. This is a life changing operation!

Almost 10 months out and never a minute of "buyers remorse" - I love my sleeve!! It's the best thing I've ever done for myself. Nothing tastes as good as buying size 4's and 6's feel. Being able to walk in any store and being able to shop........there is NOTHING like it!!!!!!!! I never anticipated this much success, I didn't expect to lose this much!!!

While I am happy with my choice to have the surgery, I should warn you that if you have any perfectionism issues they will likely crop up a bit. I am still dealing with regrets/remorse that I wasn't able to do this on my own without surgery. It's feels a little like failure and as a lifelong perfectionist that's a little difficult to manage. I work a lot with reframing right now. I try to remember that allowing myself to stay heavy when I had a viable solution would be failure. At 5 weeks out, I am much more at peace with my decision and any sense of failure I may have - but it's there. I just wanted to point this out as something to be aware of so you can be ready for it if you deal with perfectionist issues as well.

As for the surgery itself, the weightloss and the lifestyle? No. No regrets. It was the right decision for me.

The first week or two are no picnic...

If you eat too much or too fast the sleeve will remind you of its purpose and you will get sick

In your head if it is not on correctly or comes loose you may order, cook, or take way more food than you can eat in a day and put it on your plate at a meal only to realize you can only eat a few bites and you're done

It's not a regret but rather a mental change as a matter of fact many mental changes that you have to deal with after the surgery

You don't have to never ever have anything again at least according to my doctor with the exception of tiny bubbles (co2) beer, soda, champagne....

But what you can't ever do again is eat like there's no tomorrow, it's just not possible you must breakup with food in large quantities and for a while with most doctors plans you must stay away from anything that is not primarily Protein.

Follow your doctors/nutritionists plan, stay dilligent until you reach goal (not saying 100% many of us slipped up here and there but most of the time) still working that way myself and you will love your sleeve just like the rest of us.

I really appreciate these posts. My surgery is scheduled for April 13th and I am trying to get my mind around all the mental and physical dynamics associated with the permanence ofmthis decision. I'm a bmi of 35 with weight of 210. I have struggled with weight since i was 12 and im 45 now I have come to terms with the realization that I will never be able to sustain the weight loss on my own even if I ever got there without vsg. Im not mentally strong enough when put in challenging situations. I believe this will help me maintain a healthy lifestyle and weight going forward.

I am 7 months out and yes there are some negatives like today pulling out clothing that use to be a tad tight but wearable trying them on thinking they'd fit great now only to have the shirt and shorts fall down, a one should blouse that hung so low I was in danger of having a Janet Jackson moment and a sweather the DH use to think looked cute looks like a sack....oh yes terrible negatives! Nope! No regrets here.

Like you said, stay the course until you reach goal. At the seminar they stressed, 'this is a way of life, not a diet'. At ten months out I'm finally learning to treat it as such. I've been at goal for five months....BUT, until I reached goal, it WAS a diet to me. I did NOT cheat, not one time. My daughter wanted me to try a new kind of Cereal she had, a Cheerio, she popped it in my mouth and the minute I realized it was sweetened, I spit it out!! Obsessive, maybe, but I reached goal in five months. I found it easier to follow the rules. I still would hold on to a lb or two, go up and down....almost every single time, but after a few days, (sometimes several days) they'd come off and stay off. I never did panic once I realized, this was my normal.

I never had a minute of buyers remorse and nothing tastes as good as a size 6 feels!!!

I can honestly say that the first two weeks have been hard. It gets better day by day. However, to be honest, I have had lots of regrets during this first period. What the hell have I done to myself? I paid what to torture myself? You could've done it without this! Wow! What a mind game we play. I try to keep reminding myself of the reasons I had prior to surgery that led me on this journey. I wish I would have written all those reasons down so I could go back and remind myself. It does get better every day! It is a major life changing experience. Be prepared for it.
