hiatal hernia
They will fix it when you get the band. I didnt even know, the only difference I would say is that I have my shoulder pain *which is from him repairing it* a lot longer and worse then just gas pains.

Ice Cream
Lol granted I would love to go to mcdonalds right now and eat I have told myself this isnt a diet anymore, its a lifestyle change. Granted one day I am sure ill have something bad for me again, but I have chosen to be healthy and to me that means no more of this junk! Again he shouldn't beat himself up, but he came here to hear what we had to say and I just think eating icecream was just a dumb idea for someone that is trying to lose weight. Again, everyone is different, they want different things, and bodies react differently.

Ice Cream
Guess everyone works with their band differently!

Ice Cream
I do believe having the band you can have things in moderation. But to start off eating icecream when your still in the liquid stage of just getting banded?

Ice Cream
I cant find the low carb ones online :-( There are plenty of other Protein bars that taste good too! You just have to do a trail and error to find them.

Reassurance Needed
400 calories a day? Is that what your doctor has you doing? Your body is prolly in starvation mode. It is holding on to everything that it can and your not losing any weight because of it. If your doctor allows more calories, you should prolly eat them, you will see the weight come off a lot quicker.

Ice Cream
Wow your subways and mcdonalds dont sell yogurt? Thats nuts! Well then prep is what you really need to focus on! Like everyone said, one time, no biggie, every once in a while no biggie. But if you get the thought in your head " well this is the best i can do between meetings" then this stuff will happen all the time. Snickers marathon protein bars are really good, keep a few at work, or in your purse :-)

How long can you stay "stuck"?
I've only been stuck twice, but man did I know I was stuck! It felt like a knife going threw me. The first time it lasted about a few minutes and it passed but the 2nd time it wasnt going away for about 5 min i just made it come back up.

Scared of getting fills and being stuck after
No my band is unfilled. I got stuck again last night and it was even worse!! I think im going to hold off on the fill until the weight stops coming off and I feel that I really need it.

Scared of getting fills and being stuck after
So I am on mushies still and I get my first fill in 2 weeks. While I was eating something a few days ago, it got stuck!!!! Idk if it was too dry or too big of a bite or what. It was the worst feeling possible, like someone took a knife and put it threw me. Everytime I tried to swallow it hurt so I just went out back and walked and walk until it passed. The whole point of the band is so that you can only eat a certain amount of food and it keeps you full for 4-5 hours right? Well currently my band is doing that for me. Could it be possible that I really can lose some weight without a fill? It scares me that I can already get stuck, if my band is already doing what its suppose to do, do I really want to make it tighter and run the risk of feeling that horrible pain again?!

2 weeks post op and getting frustrated
I wouldn't say that the surgical team is to blame. Before I was banded I thought the same way as you, I thought I knew that oh I wont lose a lot of weight until I start getting my fills and Im at restriction and I knew not to be discouraged and upset about not losing. It all changed once I was banded. In my head I know how it works and I know what is suppose to happen and what is not... but it doesn't change the fact that I am annoyed by the sudden stop in weight lost. You see weight loss for a good 2-3 weeks everyday and then it just stops! It's not easy to just not get discouraged, even though I knew what to expect. How can you not be discouraged if you gain weight? I will prolly freak out if I gain any weight. I couldn't imagine, I worked so hard to get here and then I gain!

2 weeks post op and getting frustrated
I was scared to eat at first also. At this point a lot of food will go down fine since your prolly have an open band. I can no longer eat as much as I use to. I do get that "stop eating feeling" after a little bit a food and it holds me off for 4-5 hours. I did once eat to much (which wasnt even a lot) and I felt that my stomach was going to explode I was so full. I now know why they tell you to stop once you first feel full. I was allowed to add spices to my foods, it makes a difference! I am not getting as much Protein that I am required either. I just bought some protein shots online that I am hoping will help. I try to add tofu to whatever I can for the extra protein. THe scale finally moved 1 pound where it has been stuck for 5 days. Normally I would be so happy, but this just seems ick! lol

Red Jello/Beef Broth??
If your on clear liquids this might be a different story but I never had to go on clear liquids, just liquids and was able to eat both things.
-
Red Jello/Beef Broth??
I was never told not to have either of these before surgery. It all depends on your doctor. Its best to follow his rules instead of going by what you read on here, everyone is different!

eating sooner than allowed
I eat ground chicken, it goes down fine :-)

Weeks 2-4 Post-op Recipes ?
Check out http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f82/mushies-stage-recipes-17637/index9.html , there are tons there! I am allowed potatoes and i have made them every which way possible. lol I also am a big chicken eater, but its not really mushy and I could never ever be hungry enough to puree my meats. The idea of it just sounds gross. But I did buy some ground chicken. Its on the softer side. I chew it till its mushed in my mouth, It might not be allowed but its actually really soft!

eating sooner than allowed
Im at that point. Ive been on mushies for a week now and I have one more to go. Im at the point where if its soft enough for me to chew into mush, im eating it. It keeps me full, Im just looking for more options.

2 weeks post op and getting frustrated
Butterfly... be thankful you lost that 11 pounds since surgery.. Im stuck at 5!!!! I know how annoying and frustrating it is and it seems very hard to lose during the mushy stage. Just keep your head in the game and remember what you are fighting for! Let your body heal and the weight will start coming off soon!

Did your insurance pay for removal?
I was told if they dont cover bariatric surgery in your policy there isnt anything you can do.

What do I need to get *before* my surgery next week?
I needed pretty much nothing. Lol . I did fill my prescription before hand, but never needed it. I bought gas-x strips, but they didn't help. I did use extra strength tylenol before I went to bed the first few nights. I didnt really do much but lay around for the first 4-5 days, so maybe some movies!
-
How long after surgery before your first bowel movement.
About 3 days post op I took some milk of magnesia. It helped.
