4 days after surgery
Goal is to reach 75 g. of Protein daily. So I'm still using Protein powder mixed with skim milk 3 x day. Adding in very thin tomato Soup, yogurt, applesauce, babyfood (2 oz) at a time, popsicles and today cream of wheat. The amounts are always less than 2 oz. Atleast I'm getting some different flavors. Done!
btrieger - we have met in other forums. I'll be pulling for you tomorrow. Last Monday was my band day - so I'm 7 days out and feel great. Very little pain - back to my normal activity. Only took Loritab before leaving surgicenter. Never used any other meds except tylenol otc. Glad your day has finally arrived. Joyce in Kansas City

Afraid to eat - Day 7 post-op
Betsy, Thank you for describing "the worse" which wasn't that bad. Yes, I could handle that and I must take my meds. And you observation (legitimate) that I'm NOT relaxing. I'm obsessing and worrying about something that has NOT happened. Relax, breathe, slow down...... Great advice and direction. Thank you so much. Joyce in KC

When in doubt there are signs to let you know
btrieger - good luck this week as you join the banders. My surgery was very smooth sailing. DH had hired 24 hr nursing for first 2 days. NOT NEEDED at all. I was very lucky and hope you will be too. You have age on your side. Bob - we are all here to support you and lots of information here. We seek a healthier, happier life and WE ALL deserve it. Joyce in KC

Afraid to eat - Day 7 post-op
Full liquids are allowed - thinned down pudding, thinned down Soup, thinned down mashed potatoes. Even tho I'd like to try them, I'm chosing yogurt, applesauce and thin tomatoe soup. Afraid to try to open up the throat and swallow. Anyone else feeling this fear? Any suggestions from old-timers? Fear of getting stuck and/or vomiting. Joyce in KC

Hey February 2010 Bandsters!
You are NOT alone. I had those feelings on Day 3. As if AIR was no longer available to me. In a panic mode. I'm still afraid to try eating. Only living on protein shakes and very soft foods - i.e. yogurt. Don't want to feel "stuck" or vomit. When I have those feelings, I look at these forums. So many others have been successful. If they can do it, SO CAN WE. Just have to be patient and go slow. In the meantime, we do have "air" and food to keep us alive. Look at the photos section. See all the success. Hope this helps you. Pre-Op - how long and success??
First 3 days were the hardest. I feel this discipline before band was seated, prepared me for the post-op requirements. A drastic change from the "pig out" life I had been leading. New life - new body. More happiness and self-confidence. The world is waiting for us. Joyce in KC

I did it!! 100 lbs. gone!!!

Almost 58, is it too late for me?
Hi Froggie, I will be 67 next month and was banded on 2-22-2010. You are NOT too old. May 11, 2009 I had a total knee replacement. Must get all this weight off the new knee - and the OLD one. The person who recommended the surgeon to me is a year older than I am and a year post surgery. She is thrilled with her decision, as I'm sure I will be as soon as the adjustment phase is over - i.e. relearning how to eat with the band. JC in KC

Hey February 2010 Bandsters!
I guess the next few months will be "trial and error" with some success thrown in. At a support meeting, someone said you just have to get to KNOW YOUR BAND. Each of us is different. I'm on Day 5 of Post-op and will start full liquids tomorrow. JC in KC

3 Days Post-Op and I'm Hungry!
Hi Sharon, Loved your idea of tracking calories and fluid intake. The protein shakes relieve the hunger for awhile and that helps. My doctor's office said to expect some gain in this period before we begin to utilitze the band with full food. Yes, the fluids pour right thru and don't allow satiety. Darn. Joyce in KC

Feb. 23rd!
Was banded on 2-22 and have been busy since then. Have a dog sitter here and DH insisted on nurses for the first 2 days. They were NOT needed. I feel great. Gas can be passed and sleeping well at night. Walking and only took pain meds at the surgicenter. None since I came home. Let the journey begin.

Day 13 of 14 pre-op diet
An accomplishment to complete pre-op. Liquids until next Friday. I CAN and will do this and be successful. My health depends on it and a life lays ahead to create wonderful memories. Patience and determination will prevail.:thumbup:
