A bit concerned with lack of appetite
It will find you. I felt the same way you did, but when I could eat soft foods, it started back. It is nothing bad though, but I do get hungry now.

Off Topic- Did anyone watch Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution show last night?
Those "cooks" were so rude to him, and they didn't see anything wrong with what they were feeding the children. I guess the "cooks" were mad that they actually had to cook instead of sticking everything in the oven or whatever. I know that experiment was gross. I can't believe those kids would still eat that after watching it be made. I guess it does start with the parents, but our GOVERNMENT should know that what they are regulating in the schools is not doing nothing but hurting the children.

Yep, they were like 1st graders I think. It comes on ABC if anyone wants to look it up. It's a pretty neat show.

Off Topic- Did anyone watch Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution show last night?
I just had to tell about this awesome show I saw last night called Jamie Oliver's food Revolution. Jamie is a chef from Britain, and he has come to Huntington, WV (so called the fattest city in the world) to try to help the schools feed the children healthy food not the processed crap that almost EVERY school in America feeds their children. One part of the show, Jamie went in to a class to see if the children knew the names of common veggies. They didn't even know what a potato or tomato was. I thought it was a great show, and it really opened my eyes to what food I eat.

Do you eat 1cup of food for every meal?
I'm not at restriction yet, so I can eat more. It's usually a lean meat and veggie. I usually do not eat a snack during the day, but if I do it is cheese stick. Since I'm not at restriction, I can eat fast and I don't have to chew well. I'm learning though.

Self Pay Costs???
I am in North Alabama, and mine was $11,800 but I got a $500 discount through the hospital because I paid in full early. So the total was $11,300 which included program fee, surgeon's fee, doctor who puts you to sleep fee (can't spell it ), and up to ten fills the first year. I did have to pay some to get my ultrasound, blood work b/c I haven't met my deductible yet. The first doctor I talked with about it was going to charge $15,900 I believe, but I heard the doctor who I went with was a good one and of course was cheaper so I went with him. Hope this helps!

corn or flour tortillas???
I can eat flour tortillas, and I have 4.2cc in my band. They didn't bother me. I tried pizza crust, and it hurt a little. I don't chew well enough though. I am learning.

Health care reform passed
I agree something needs to be done. The doctors bills, etc. for procedures are crazy. I am self-pay for the lap-band. Why did blood work and a ultrasound cost $4500.00? Luckily I only had to pay like $400 of that. Also, why did it cost me $7200 to spend a few hours at the hospital after surgery? I guess that included the OR and everything (not the surgeon's fee or other doctor fees). My mother had knee replacement a few years back, and she had to stay in the hospital like 4-5 days. The bill for that procedure was over $200,000. Of course the insurance paid for that, but still. Something needs to be done for things like this. I hope this bill does better than a lot of people think. I will pray it does. I just don't want everything to increase in price over this (like food or gas or whatever).

worst case of hemmorhoids
I had kinda the same problem. I wouldn't go for a week without using the bathroom. When I did, I was on the toilet for an hour or more, and I threw up. I was white as a ghost, and I had to take off work b/c I felt bad. I started taking milk of mag. and it does the job. My doctor recommends Colace so I got some of that to try.

Health care reform passed
I've heard this is going to give all the illegal immigrants access to healthcare (I don't know). How is that fair? Also how is it fair that they will REQUIRE everyone to have health insurance or face a fine. There are some things that are good, but is requiring everyone to have it unconstitutional? Also, what about the small businesses with 50 workers that will be required to carry insurance for their workers. Will this not increase prices on their products thus causing inflation? I don't know about you, but I don't want to give the government anymore in taxes than what they are already getting. Like I said before, I'm not into politics and I'm not trying to start an argument. I'm trying to learn why this is or isn't a good thing. So no bashing me for these questions.

Health care reform passed
She did call, and they said it wasn't covered. She used to be included with my dad's insurance when he worked for Delphi. When he quit, they had to get new insurance. The mammogram used to be covered on her old insurance, but not now. She has all these pre-existing conditions. She has degenerative bone disease which has caused her to have a few vertebra fusions and knee and hip replacement. The insurance isn't that great even though it is through BCBS.

Health care reform passed
Who is going to pay for all this? They said they wouldn't raise taxes, but who is going to pay? Also, what about the quality of healthcare? What about if you need treatment for something, and it takes months and months to get in with a doctor? I'm asking because I don't follow politics much. Not trying to start a fight. I don't know what will happen, but I know my mother's insurance would not cover her mamogram b/c they said it wasn't medically necessary. She is 50, and breast cancer runs in our family but it's not medically necessary.

Dr. suddenly quits practice, did not notify me!
That is crazy. They should have contacted you. I went for my first fill last Tuesday, and I didn't get a call to remind me. I don't know if it is because I'm self-pay or if they expect you to keep up with it.

I can't get my calories to where they should be, any suggestions welcome!
I don't know about other doctors, but mine wants us to get 1000-1200 cal. a day. I've always heard your metobolism wouldn't be so good if you didn't give your body enough calories. I don't know.

Anybody tried Jim's Permalean Protein supplements?
I was looking online for some good meal replacement protein bars, and ran across Jim's Permalean Protein. They make bars and protein powder mix. Has anyone here tried them? Are they good? I saw some reviews that were good, and the bars themselves look good. Just curious.

supplemental protein
I got the ready-made EAS shakes that have 25g of protein and 210 cal. in them, and they are so gross. I've been looking for something I can put in plain water (b/c I don't like flavored water like the Special K protein water things) that will mix up good and doesn't have a taste or isn't gritty. Anyone know of a good one?

Whey Protein
Can the human body absorb that much protein at one time? I heard that the body can only absorb so much protein at a time like 20g or so. I was thinking about getting some whey protein, but I was curious about this.

I am miserable, hungry, hurting, itching! Please help!
I'm sorry ya'll are feeling bad. I didn't feel like eating for at least two weeks after surgery so I cannot help there. I started getting a little hungry after I started soft foods, but it hasn't been bad. The worse was probably the morning after my first fill. I was used to eating real food for the past week, and I had to go back on full liquids after the fill. It does get better though.

Don't underestimate...
I went for my first fill on Tueday, and I talked with the nutritionist about my worries. I told her that I maybe get in 45g of Protein a day. She asked me my height, and then she told not to worry to much about it. She said they recommend 50-60g a day. They do not like you to eat snackes so I will have to get my protein during my three meals. The only problem is I love eating Cereal for breakfast (Special K original), and it doesn't have much protein in it. Maybe 15g total with milk. What protein breakfast bars are good? I like the Special K bars, but I don't know of any other good ones.

1st fill...
I got my first fill on Tuesday. It did hurt a little. They didn't numb me, but it wasn't nothing to bad. Mine was under fluro, and I got 4.2 cc. The worst part is going back on full liquids for 2 days. I hate protein shakes (well just the EAS ones).

Protein risks and benefits
I was concerned about not getting enough Protein, so I asked the nutritionist about it yesterday. She said we tell people to try to get 60g a day in, but if you don't don't worry about it. She asked how tall I was and I told her I only get like 45g or so. She told me that was fine for my height. I asked her about the protein shots, etc. and she told me I didn't need them that I could get all I needed through my food. I know doctors are different so I guess I won't worry as much if I don't get in 60g per day. My question is how do all ya'll get in your protein with no snacking? They told me no snacking when I get to eating solid food. Protein shakes are no fun so I don't drink them unless I've had a fill.

Going in for first fill today
I got my first fill yesterday, and he put 4.2 cc in. He didn't put any in during my surgery. It was under fluro, and I don't think he numbed it because it hurt pretty badly. It only took maybe 5 minutes total, and it did feel a little weird with the stuff going in. I am STARVING today. Is this normal? I have to be on liquids for 2 days then mushies for 2 days, but I am really hungry today. I got some EAS shakes that have 25g of Protein, and those things are nasty. I'm going to drink them because they were expensive, but they are gross. Anyway, I knew I should have got the Atkins ones, but oh well. Sorry for my rant.

Butter?
I like the Smart Balance kind, but nothing beats the real stuff :scared2:.

Don't underestimate...
How do you get that much protein in with not being able to eat a lot at each meal? Do you eat Snacks? This will be my biggest hurdle when I get filled. I just don't know how I will get all my protein in. I'm scared!

What was your "That's it" Moment?
I have only been overweight for 5 years, but I knew I had a problem with food ever since I graduated high school and quit playing sports. I also have to be a bridesmaid in my cousin's October wedding :frown:. I want to look better than I did at my brother's wedding a couple years back.
