I have a hard time with chicken also. It has to be very juicy inside, I cannot microwave left overs. I can only have it later in the day. M-

Weight Gain!!!
I agree with the above, you have to keep a journal everyday to see how many calories and protein your are getting. I find the days I don't eat enough I protein or eat too little, I don't gain, but I don't lose either..One day at a time..M-

Hi Im a nubbie ^_^
Hi Moo, I was there with you, for two years I thought about it went through the insurance procedure, classes, denied twice, appeal twice and then finally self paid, and I do not regreat a minute of it. Now I am 5 months out and no longer use insuline and or high blood pressure medicine. Even my shoe size is smaller since my feet don't swell up like the used to. I am about half way to my goal weight and just love my band. Read everything you can and talk to your drs. The band is not a quick fix by any means. I still excercise every day and watch what I eat, and chew, chew chew...God Bless. m-

Strange way of eating
I too am also very tight in the am. I have coffee and a protein bar usually around 8:30am, it takes me about 30 minutes to finish the whole bar. then I have a laughing cow cheese around 10:30, then at lunch all i have is tuna, chicken or salmon, small portion plate. at 2:30pm another protein bar, then for dinner tuna, chicken or salmon again, nothing after 7pm. I have 5cc and only have had two fills. I have good days and bad days. I find if I wait too much between meals, I fill up with air and it is harder to get things down. But I really love my band and even on the worst day don't regret it. M-

Tomorrow is the Day!
Enid, yes, you hear it all once you are banded. I was banded 2/23 in Venezuela, my insurance denied 2 appeals. Anyway, I feel so blessed to have been able to do this for myself. Every patient is different, I am happy with my band. It is not by all means an easy fix, it still takes hard work. Excercise and eating right to make it work. I too suggest a lot of walking after the surgery and they are Gas X, strips that dissolve in your mouth. They were my savior. My only pain after surgery was from Gas and lots of it..hehe, God Bless and you will be fine and ready for your new beginning. M-

What to eat at a cookout?
I had a hard time at first with solid foods. I found I could eat turkey burgers as long as they were not overcooked. I cut them up into small pieces and put a laughing cow light garlic cheese spread over the burger meat helps it go down. Remember to not skip a meal because you are going to the cookout. Plan ahead, because there will be tons of options that you will not be able to eat and if you do it will make you really sick. I take my lunch box with me everywhere. Now my friends and family are also adjusting to my new eating habits. Good luck.. Maritza

2nd fill on friday
Rhonda, one good suggestion is to only take the stairs everywhere, no elevator. Also, one stroll around the whole deck after every meal..it is romantic and beautiful so you wont feel like you are exercising. And of course follow the Protein rule first. Enjoy, you will be fine. Have a great time.. Maritza

Time off work
My surgery was 2/23 and I also took 2 weeks off from work. Not because of the actual surgery, but because I felt weak. M-

Protruding port?
I am about 10 weeks post op and recently they had to go back and open my port area because it had flipped. so I am soar again, but as the weeks go by sometimes I can feel easily sometimes it is hard to locate. It just takes time to heal.

Help with slowing down.
If you haven't had a fill, wait because everything changed for me once I got my first fill..I have 4cc in my band, and oh my...if I don't eat slow enough I choke and the pressure in my shoulder and chest is almost unbareable. So I eat very slowly with small utensils. Also, I have to keep everything moist and it helps things go down better, like tuna with mayo is my best friend right now.

Aftering being banded, how much weight did you loose until the first fill??
274 was my highest weight in 2009. I was at 258 when i started the liquid diet, I was 252 the day of my surgery so lost 6lbs on one week liquid diet. I am at 240 as of my 2 week post op weight which is 18 lbs post op. I have not lost one pound this week which is my 3rd week but I am not discouraged. 274-240 = 34lbs and counting..

Hey February 2010 Bandsters!
Here i am at my last day at work. I leave for San Juan tomorrow 6am to pickup my aunt who is going with me to Caracas. (She is from Caracas and the surgeon is a family friend). We leave for Caracas on Friday, some sight seeing and then tuesday 2/23 9am is the surgery. I am not afraid. Other than leaving the kids with my husband and mother in law in charge..hehe But for the first time in Lord knows how many years I am putting me and my health first. I will not be able to logon, but as soon as I return I will upload pictures and blog. Best of luck to all and God Bless.
