In November 2009, There was a seminar at the hospital about the lapband surgery and I went out of curiosity and because I was interested in it. I stayed after everyone had left to ask some questions and to try to go ahead and fill out my insurance paperwork and send it with them, to see if my insurance would cover it. It was after Christmas before I heard anything and I had almost forgot that I had sent it in. They then told me the next steps in the process in trying to get approved. I did alot of leg work and went to my doctor(s) office(s) and filled out papers to have my records for the past 5 years sent to them. That sped up the process some.I started my doctor supervised diet on January15. My insurance required that I be on a supervised diet for 3 months. On April 7th I went to Champaign for my psychological, to see their dietician and the physician assistant. These people are ALL very professional and very NICE people. I also left my food diary with them where I had kept track of everything I had eaten and what exercise that I had done each day. They said they would then compose a letter to the insurance company and we would see what happens. My last appointment (diet related) with my regular Dr. was on June7th and on June 10th I got a call saying that I had received my approval letter from the insurance company(the 1st time). I was really excited!!I was then scheduled to go for pre-op tests on June30 and start my 2 week liquid diet. My surgery is scheduled for July 14, 2010. I can't wait.
