Brendac40, I ate sugar free jello and puddin, lots of soup including Applebees cream of brocc., drank my protein with blended fruit (banana, berry, no apples or oranges ) and lost 15lbs. before surgery. I don't understand why people tell other NOT TO DO THE DIET.... if over 95% of the doctors are telling there patients, it must be important. You have to ask your self what kind of outcome do you want from this surgery.. Do you want to start off good are start by already cheating and trying to get around it? Are do what the doctors say and have success? I would be lying if i said i didn't cheat, I did, i ate a couple chips one day. But other than that, i stuck to the diet. It was hard, but you have to fellow the diet after surgery anyway, so get use to it...... You can do this, if i could... anybody can. Lapband is not easy. I wish you all the success in the world. Good luck The purpose of a pre-surgery diet is to: Reduce body fat around the stomach and liver, as well as shrink the liver itself. If the liver is too large, the surgery may have to be postponed. Improve surgical outcomes and recovery. By reducing fatty triglycerides from around the liver and spleen, it can reduce potential surgical bleeding. Increase protein intake, which will help preserve and protect muscle tissue. The pre-surgery diet will also prepare Lap-Band patients for the post-op diet and increase the rate of weight loss following surgery.
  3. So that was my question.... how did you get approved with out the surgeon? Went to the seminar in July, first dr. appt in Aug, did all my other dr. visits..... cardiovascular, sleep study, Dietitian , psych eval., etc.... then went back to my surgeon he compiled all the info and results from all the test and sent to insurance for approval. I was fortunate that my insurance approved me first time out. I could be wrong, but i would think the approval is to see the surgeon. Anyway, from seminar to surg. day.... four months. Banded 11/10/09 i would also encourage you to do plenty of research on the band. All the good and the bad.... it's a commitment not a lot of people can deal with, physically and emotionally..... Good luck .....
  4. When ever your ready. The pain in your port area is just the healing process... we all went thru that and still do. Every now and again, you will have discomfort in your port area. I'm 17 mts out and still have port pain.
  5. wow.... thanks for this............. I need to get recommitted to me...... your right.... I AM WORTH IT.............
  6. That is all well and good..... but this is not "Bible time".... take it some where else. If it makes you feel better, when you go to your next Prayer meeting talk about it there..................Follow the Bible and stop Judging..... Step down from the soap box... Just an FYI: there is a high rate of divorce among-est people who get WLS............ I'm not condoning it, in fact, my input was to "stay put", but we are not her and we don't walk in her shoes.... This is a support site.
  7. Awkward..... this is a friendly site and people come here to ask questions about what is going on in their lives......... NOT to get Bible beat by someone who is consumed by what the "bible says"..... The Bible also says it's ok to own slaves and be a polygamous...... is that ok? So, save your religion for your Sunday worship.... this is not the place.
  8. I understand where you are coming from. My husband and i have been married for 20 1/2 years. He has been with me thru everything. When we got together i was a size 0-3.... over the years i ballooned up to a size 18. Never has he said anything to me about my weight, but it did effect our marriage. For the past few years before LB... we maybe had sex 2-3 times a year... yes you heard me right... a year. This was not all his fault, i could not stand my self and it did effect everything. He is 6'4" and is NOW in great shape, but he went thru a "fat" stage also. Thru the years i wondered if we would make it. Well we hung in and things are getting better. My confidence has gone up and the new found "sex-life" is amazing. We do still have our issues. I getting use to the attention that i use to get from men that disappeared for years... again. Oh, we still fuss and argue all the time.... but it is what it is. Everyone goes thru tuff times no matter if you had WLS or not............... im going to share something with you that has gotten me thru the years of doubt. My grandma told me this ....... you know what you have.., but you never know what you'll get. Every man has issues, don't trade one for the other. Ask yourself these questions: Does he hit me, do drugs, alcoholism, verbally abusive?...... If you answer no to all these, then stay put... Last year he and i took a weekend away, just the two of us and rekindled our relationship...... if you can, try this.. it might help. Best of luck to you....... and you need not apologize for awkward.... opinion are like a$$ holes.... everyone has one.
  9. Wow.... Peaches.... what a great piece. I have printed it and i'm going to add it to the wall of inspiration.....

You can do it.......... Order the soup..... just don't eat the chunks... I was on vaca for one of my weeks of liquids.... Everyplace i went...i would say .. I think i'll have the soup. It became a big joke for the whole trip. Everyone was like... Chris what are you having? It will be all worth it in the end.
  11. You shouldn't ..... not can't. I have to admit.. I still do drink carb drinks. Less than one a day. Now I can't eat and drink them at the same time. I have to wait at least an hour after i eat to take even one sip. sounds like you just got banded. Once you get more fills..... it will be harder and harder.
  12. Maybe hint around and feel him out. I would say some thing like.... i have a friend that has had this surgery.. LB. Have you heard of it?... then fellow up with .. i'm been looking into it i i think it may be a good remedy for my weight issue... I'm coming to you because i value your opinion. You have to go in with all your ducks in a row..... This way he will see how important it is to you. Go in with a open mind and a open heart. Just know that you will have to tell him sooner or later. There is no way to hide it from him.... no way possible. If you wait till after he may feel like you don't trust him and it could cause problems. I wish you all the luck in the world..... God Bless
  13. NJ.... you will not regret telling him. He will try and be the supportive... "i love you no matter what you look like" husband. But, after the surgery... watch out... I can't keep my husband off me now...lol. I too was a size "0" when i met my husband.... so he has seen me at my best and worst.... now i'm in the middle somewhere.. but i like a size 8.... would love a size 4 My husband said.... really you don't need that, you are beautiful as you are..... but i do own a mirror and i know he was just being a thoughtful husband and trying not to hurt my feelings. I mean.. do we really want to hear from our husband... Yea you really could use all the help you can get... no we don't. But, i'm glad i told him and my family. And you will too, i'm sure of it. Good luck with your appts. and i will be praying for you.... By the way..... i so wish i was a jersey girl.... i love the housewives and jerseylious .. oh.. the big hair and the clothes and tans... i love it... My husband has a uncle that lives in Jersey. He had LB and so did one of his daughters.
  14. I had all that crap at my house too... never used them. Do you have a friend you can walk with? I can not get up and exercise in the morning.... i like to sleep till the last min... My weight didn't show until i started exercising... My husband was my motivator and support system. Now I go to the Y right after work. I also have a dog that I walk 3-4 times a day. I live 10 min. from work so I go home at lunch and walk her. I do zumba, body combat ans spin class as a group and i walk the treadmill and do the DEVIL (elliptical). When i first started i could only do like 5 min on both... now i'm up to 45. You can do it..... We 40+ girls have to stick together.....
  15. When i first started looking into the LB i of course did it in private. The first person i talked to was my friend Paula... she had had the surgery a year before and was doing great. She was very open to everyone with it. So I went to her in confidence and said I was thinking of having the surgery. She kept my secret, and i so respect her for that. Turns out her life mate and i had our LB surgery on the same day with the same dr. The next person was my husband. He at first was not so sure, but after I went to him with all my research and with my mind made up that i was doing this for my self, he was right on board. He and i discussed it and i decided to not tell any one, he honored my wishes and kept my secrete. I did tell my Sons and my daughter in law. They were all on board. I didn't even tell my mom or my family at first. About six months after the surgery i told the rest of my family. My mom kept asking if i was ok because i kept losing weight and she didn't know why..... thought I was sick... so I told them. I started to get comfortable with telling people at about six months. People would ask and i would tell them, i had LB surgery........... THEN...... i started getting "the look". All us WLS people..... know "the look"........... it right after they ask you, How are you doing it... and you say I had LB surgery. It's the YOU TO THE EASY WAY OUT LOOK. I would get so mad because...... WLS was defiantly not the EASY WAY OUT............ it's hard as hell. Just because you had the surgery does not mean you are will lose weight. My sister in law had it done and weighs more... but she refuses to follow the rules and exercise. I would so love a big fat cheese burger with fries..... and a dr. pepper at the same time.... So now, when some one that has not seen me in a while comes up to me and ask.............how I did it........... i say I watch what i eat and i exercise...... Now, i have lost 71lbs, i could not be happier. My husband, who never complained about my weight, loves the NEW ME..... He love that fact that i have more confidence and in turn feel better about being more intimate. I truly believe it not only saved my life, but marriage (of 20year) is way better. His favorite thing..... i was able to get rid of all my "granny panties".......... and went bought some cute ones at VS.... So, NJ girl.......... sit down with your research and tell your husband... he will be glad you did, and so will you.....
  16. Lets face it..... I know i've heard for many year... you have such a pretty face...... well most of us "fat girls" do. But we also had wonderful up-beat attitudes, great personalities, and a loving caring giving soul..... When we lose the weight we still have all this and now we are healthier and we look HOT.. They just have skinny.......
  17. Congratulation to all of you for making the decision to change your lives.... I got baned in nov. of 09'. I still don't tell everyone about my surgery. At first I did, but after you get "the look", you stop. A lot of my close friends and family know, but i don't lead with.... Hi, my name is Christina and i had Lap band surg. After a few time you get "the look" you start to wonder if you are the lazy fat person they talk about. It's the "you too the easy way out look"..... EASY... by no means is this EASY.... I work every day watching what I eat, and exercising to lose what i have. What i would give for a BIG JUICY cheese BURGER AND FRENCH FRIES..... OR A SLICE OF pizza.... So now, when people who have not seen me in a while say..... WOW you look great, how did you do it..... I say ..... I watch what i eat and i exercise 4-5 times a week and i walk 3-4 times for 20-30 min everyday. it's not a lie.... i just don't tell them i had WLS. The sad thing is..... i want to shout it from every roof top...... Lap band surg... saved my life and my marriage..... and i would do it again tomorrow if i had too. But i can't because of the narrow minded people in the world. Love you all and keep up the great work
  18. Me.... too..... I agree with Want2beme my coach told me some thing one day.... If you want to feel pretty, hang around people who are ugly. So I guess someone told your friend..... If you want to feel skinny and have more self confidence hang around people fatter than you... with no self confidence. I think this is her issue.... I would not take her back as a friend. Your better off with out her "drama" Congrats on your success, keep up the great work.
  19. I guess like everything else in life... there are pros and cons. For me, I know about the sleeve, by friend had it done. She has had great success with it. This is what i can say about the band (for me). I love the fact that my stomach is still in one piece and having time to adjust with my band as for as eating habits (as i got fills). But on the other hand, it is a pain in the butt to have to go back and forth to get filled and then unfilled (never got unfilled) till you get the "sweet spot". All in all i don't see how you could go wrong with either. You have taken the first step to a new heather you and you should be proud. Life will never be the same. Banded 11-10-09: Beginning weight 223, now 152 as of this morning. 71lbs gone FOREVER.... Good luck
  20. Welcome to the club....Tomorrow is the start of the New You..... i wish you all the luck in the world. A good support system is very very important. My husband and family are wonderful also. Be prepared for some people to not be as supportive as others. Especially your "other fat friends". Your true friends will stick by your side and encourage you all the way. Wear comfortable clothes. I wore my pj's and a sports bra. socks... don't for get socks. Personal items... And don't forget to bring your positive attitude....
  21. Banded 11/10/09 in Louisiana... was 223lbs now 153lbs... size 18 now 8-10.... the "girls" won't go away..... was a 44G now 38H...
  22. mix... one teaspoon of meat tenderizer , one teaspoon of water and one teaspoon of lemon juice...(real of constrained). Drink fast.. stay by bathroom. repeat if does not work the first time, then drink some water
  23. Way to go... Melzie.. Keep up the great work. I love Zumba. My newest love... Body Combat. OMG, i was sore for two days. Best way to get out aggression. Try it if you get a chance.

OMG.... finally someone on here that has the problem i have ..... i wear a 38H... currently i wear my reg. bra, a sports bra and the "liner" bra that is built into the workout tank (all at the same time).... it is so uncomfortable. I would love to start running, but my breast hurt so bad the next day. I feel like i got punched on each side... I'm going to look up the web site you recommended. Did you buy your size or did you go down a size? Thanks
