How many reach goal
Oh I love data, and would like to see a comprehensive study. But really, when it comes to crunch time it's the individual and their committment to doing what they want to do. Some people are pleased be less fat than they were without the band. Some people perfer never to have to exercise and are willing give up thoughts of losing those last 20 pounds. Some want to be curvy or whatever... It's what you want.

How many reach goal
Do you remember Stats? Not worrying about the term "GOAL" if there are a group of people who get the same procedure they are going to fall into the bell curve somewhere. Having met some lapbanders I find it perfectly resonable based on their behavior, not following sound advice, that they will be in the majority and only lose 50-60% of their weight. I decided when I was told that was the average that I was going to be not one but two standard diveations from the norm and see my goal weight. I'm not there yet, but to date, I'm doing pretty well. When I see badly behaving bandsters I figure someone needs to pad the numbers, so I don't lecture. So the question is, are you going to be average or above average? You've are capable of putting all excuses aside and seeing your goal weight. You've just got to decide that's what you are going to do. Yes, it's that simple. And for a refresher. Here's a bell curve:

Lap Band Students!!
I'm in school full time and work full time. But I'm a non traditional student, being 40 and all. It's about setting priorities, Allison. If you want this bad enough to get cut open and poked around inside you'll find ways to make it work. Good Luck! I'd check out the 20-somethings pages for people with similar life situations as yours too.

The kid's candy coma is starting!!! She woke me up at 7 to see if the Easter bunny had arrived! Too cute! I'm trying to write a paper, cook for family and clean all at the same time. I'm stressed! And ever so slightly excited about seeing my people. My brother is supposed to do some work on the house while he is here too. Ack, must........ finish .........the......... paper. Thanks for the break!

Has anyone taken up Bycyling?
BP I was going to say I was jealous of your weather but you had to do yard work in March and that's horrible!!!!!!!! I hate yard work with a passion. Okay though, I am jealous of your ability to ride. Good lesson about fixing the flat. I keep a tube with me, but I don't have a pump on my bike. Fat lot of good that will do me, eh? I typically ride close to my house if I'm solo and I ride with a group if I'm far from home... HP You know I love the Giant! Sweet bike. Tell John Congrats!

Spring Into Action Weight Loss Challenge

Hi Gang. You all are killing me with the Coach purse discussion. The only purse I own is a coach and it's more like a big bag. However, I've been thinking about carrying a purse again...so of course it's got to be a coach...we'll see...I'm feeling inspired. Onederland is pretty awsome. Funny to see the other side of 200, which I've never seen in my adult life. I'm thrilled. JC, I thought most pedal systems could be hooked on to any cycling shoe. I have Nikes. Stef, you're diabetic? Give the details. BG, your snow flurried down here for a few hours today but nothing stuck.

Aspects of Blindness
Hi Debbie, I work at the Ohio School for the Deaf as the cafeteria manager. We share a huge piece of property with the Ohio State School for the Blind and we are starting to share services. Anyway, I'm hearing and sighted but curious where you went to school and if you were at a School for the Blind how you feel about it. Thanks for sharing! Juli

How funny. I was stuck doing work as well. For pity's sake. Aren't we a odd bunch?!

Biking
You won't have to give them up. You will need to take a break to recover from your surgery. Most surgeons want you to allow your core to heal for 6 weeks. You might herniate your incisions. There is a way more active bicycling thread on here. It's "Bycyling" or some such poorly spelled thing. There's lots of chatter on there but we are mostly road bikers. Check it out.

Watching what I eat is getting harder for me
bjr That is a true statement. However if one isn't vigilant one can gain weight with the band by eating around it. You do that by eating high calorie foods often. Even in small quantities the numbers can add up quickly. It's that vigilance that gets tiresome after a while. Can someone eat as much as before, probably not. Can someone continue destructive behaviors after getting the band, absolutely...Being mindful is the key. How relax or to what extent one must be mindful is the crux of it.

Motivational Quotes
On another thread we started talking motivational quotes. If you have some favorites add them to the list. Hopefully you'll find a few that are meaningful and helpful to you. My favorites right now are: "Winning is never accidental. To win consistenetly you must have a clear plan and intense motivation." Lou Holtz "Obstacle are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal." Henry Ford "The only difference between a rut and a grave is the depth.'' Anon "I am not interested in the past. I am interested in the future, for that is where I expect to spend the rest of my life.'' CF Kettering "Knowing what to do and not doing it doesn't get you very far.'' J. Pfeffer

Watching what I eat is getting harder for me
Well since you opened the door, the few I have on my wall behind my computer screen are: Winning is never accidental. To win consistenetly you must have a clear plan and intense motivation. Lou Holtz Obstacle are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal. Henry Ford The only difference between a rut and a grave is the depth. Anon I am not interested in the past. I am interested in the future, for that is where I expect to spend the rest of my life. CF Kettering Give me a few more of yours. Oh, shoot I'm going to start a new thread with this...
