Has anyone taken up Bycyling?
Sorry about changing voices half way through that. Writing in third then first person. I need to proof read more. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~` I rode 33 miles this morning with a crazy head wind!!!! There was only 7 of us on the ride which was smaller than typical, but it was a good ride. Rolling hills are my favorite! Have I told you I love to bike? It's crazy this time last year I'd never have guessed it. The fact that I pay a sitter $30 so I can go is nuts too, but it's a small price for my health and relationships I'm building. I told my bike mentor person, Joanna, about OUR trip in Spetember. She's amused that we are converging on Ft Wayne. I think it's fantastic!!!! But I had to come out of the surgery closet to explain how we all met. That felt awkward. Everyone at work knows, and I'm not shy about talking about myself, but it's funny I've known her since May and I'm just telling her.... Anyway it was a great morning to ride in central Ohio.

Has anyone taken up Bycyling?
HP, Oh sweetie........ Jealousy is bitch of a feeling. I hope I can contribute. If you take yourself out of the equation. Here you have a fella who has been biking regularly and he's met some new folk. The new folks share the biking interest. They've asked him out on ride. His wife too. But she can't make it. She's working, Well, he could go ride, get some exercise, make some conversation, maybe grab a bite to eat (WE nearly always get food half way through) and have an energetic start to his weekend. Or he could say, you know my wife can't go so I'm not going. I'm going to putz around the house, maybe sleep in, maybe mow the lawn... Regardless I'm not going to be with my wife, she's at work. I might as well make the best use of my time. I'm sure he loves to bike with you, but like the rest of us who've taken up biking I'm sure he just plain loves to bike and is happy to have the opportunity to learn more and do more. Now, chica you had him at 300+, you're going to have him at 140. He loves you. We joke about having to "break in" a new g/f should we break up and that's a compelling reason to stay together. It's a little jaded but the truth is there is comfort in being with the "ol' lady". So, trust that he loves you. Trust that he's just thinking about having his ass on the bike seat and not thinking about you thinking "BUT IT'S WHAT WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE DO." If you can manage to get over feeling badly about his biking, ask him a bunch of questions about the ride...jealousy is normal, trust me I know...I'll save the details, our issue is distance and a huge difference in income. I'm a lunch lady she's an engineer... At any rate, you can either let the jealousy eat at you or you can say, yep, I'm jealous, I'm human, it's what we do, but it's unfounded and there's not a smart solution. (Having him stay home because you had to work isn't smart. He'd be missing a good opportunity to get more fit and make connections with people.) In my situation I can't make more money immediately and asking her to make less is silly. And she shares her money when she can, but I don't ask for any... You have my heart. I know it's hard. It really is.

MORE THAN JUST THE BAND: Doing Some Headwork
I signed back up with my councelor in January 06 when I decided to get banded. I'm still seeing her about once a month. I didn't get banded until March 07. My relationship with her or the work or however you want to put it have been as important as my surgeon and nutritionist. Good for you for getting the mental pieces sorted.

HP, I love that you posted that. An old coworker visited at work today and read my motivational quotes I have on my wall. "The only difference between a rut and a grave is the depth." Made him laugh out loud. Any other faves out there? D I like "Food is not your friend, food is fuel." That's getting printed and posted somewhere.

Talking about wicking away mosture while biking...this is really a biking question.... Has anyone found a good way to absorb the mosture in the pants area? You know where the skin is somewhat layered? I try powder that doesn't absorb much....

Perhaps we could call the new thread "Crotches, Boners and Bikes?" I've been know to call a cranky person a "crotch". I've been known to be cranky too. It's true.

BG, Thank you for asking. It makes me crazy too. A million pages ago D tried to get a new thread started but we all just continued on over here. You know we could just hop to a new thread...too. D, I could try to find JC a girl friend, I'd have a hard time being a stand in however. Boys are fun to talk to but they are hairy and that kind of grosses me out. JC understands, pushing up on a hairy butt probably doesn't do much for him either. But I could be wrong. He might like his ladies robust. I had a German uncle who thought women with unshaved legs were "Robusto!". I was 16 and thought he was insane.

Well I am having an exciting morning of reading the manual that came with my business calculator. Calm me down.

You know, considering how competetive we all are...(with ourselves mostly, I'm guessing) if they had a ranking for the most active thread we'd win. hehehe

Bicycle Bike Repair Maintenance Tools Bicycle Rehabilitation Project This one is really cool, he repairs other people's bikes as a political action. Bicycling instruction video: Zinn and the Art of Mountain Bike Maintenance by Lennard Zinn This is specific to moutain bikes, but I'm sure it has good information. Okay you're on your own now.

JC and BG, you two kill me. So much to say so early in the morning! First of all BG if you've smelled a limburger crotch, and I'm assuming you don't go around smelling anyone's buy your own, you need to check your personal hygene...or get that infection cleared up. As for being taken advantage of at work, can you get more money for doing what you do? You can always ask. Being a state worker, we'd call that working out of class and you could get more $$. On a work note, I had an inservice with my staff yesterday about nutrition. I had them break down a day's menu cals, fat, carb, and protein by running around reading lables. They compared it to USDA's standards for a 18 y/o boy, and the reality of what our kids eat. (3 bread sticks, not 1). It was great. One guy was like, "they need to stop eating for the day by the time lunch is over." I had them figure out some healthier changes we could do and they decided to limit dessert from 10 to 2 times a week, add twice the veggies, get 100% whole wheat bread, get rid of iceburg lettuce and add sweet potatoes to the baked potato days. I know too many details, but I'm so proud and happy! Now people are joking that I put myself on a diet and now I'm putting the school on one too! HA! I won't deny it! And we are different from typical schools becuase our kids eat for free...so they don't have a monetary reason not to eat til they burst. Anyway, surprise, surprise, it's a happy work post from me.

Denise, God love ya. You're a nut job. My band can no longer be called Phyllis, because she's got a fill. Now she's Lil' Terr. Let me explain. I work in a cafeteria and there's a woman I work with who is sassy and calls people out all the time. Her name is Terrie. If on Monday you come through the lunch line and say, "Oh, just a little of that, I'm watching my diet." Then on Tuesday you come through and grab a piece of pie, she will in fact say, "what, you done watching it? Yestereday you said you were on a diet. That was quick. You got to goal? Good for you. No, go on. Take the pie. I don't want to stop you." Mind you I can do a good impersonation of her too. Which get's her rolling! One time she was baking cookies and I was drooling. I went to get one. I said, "oh those smell so good." She said, "You ate these before. You know what they taste like, go on get out of here, you don't need to eat one now." So, I like to think of my band as the voice of Terrie telling me to go on and get away from the shit food. I told her I named my band after her and she laughed. When I do her to her..you know impersonate her, she says it sounds so mean coming from my mouth. She's just trying to be helpful! LOL

Has anyone taken up Bycyling?
For a bunch of bike geeks we talk far too much about being aroused. I'm just saying..... My WOW chicas are doing a 30 mile ride on Saturday. I got the sitter lined up. I'm stoked. And to be completely bipolar I just want to say the GF and I are misfiring and it's annoying. Typically this gets better when we see each other and that's been post poned to sometime in the middle of September. We were going to be together Labor Day, but she's got to take care of stuff at her mother's house instead of coming here and I've got to stay in town... It's not horrible, but I'm annoyed. I might even get pouty.

For those of us who weigh in daily!!
I weigh myself daily, like the rest of you. Nikkit after peeing. I figure I'm making up for the years I refused to get on the scale because I didn't want to know how much I weighed. It keeps me on track and I really get that the numbers sometimes moves up...I look for an overall downward trend.

Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgendered Bandsters
Hi Flipper. Welcome. I didn't have to do much in the way of liquids but I'm really surprised at how easy it's been to feed me and my 6 year old. I don't expect her to eat like me but blending the edges has been helpful. I know you're talking more about when you are doing liquids, after the first few days you should be able to not be too resentful. And if it gets too out of hand make her take them to a restaurant while you sleep or something. It's a short term in the big scheme of things. Congrats on getting on with the process. With that said, where are you in the process?

I don't have a myspace page. I've just never done it. I have blogged for 5 years or so. I had one I kept up with for a long long time, but it got ugly and someone who doesn't like me in real life (hard to believe, but true) stalked me on there. I don't know how she found it but it was a mess. Anyway, I just keep my wls blog now and it's not all that interactive. I'm going to check you now, chica.
