Things I Won't/don't Miss About The Band...
I should add - no more port pain when my cat steps on it - which being a cat means he is able to do every time he steps on me with laserlike accuracy.

What Are You Eating On Your Pre-Op Diet?
I'm going to Starbucks in the AM and getting an orange/mango/banana smoothie and then greek yogurt with SF blueberry (or some other flavor) preserves. Usually yogurt for dinner too. And sometimes a third for a snack between breakfast and lunch. I'm happy with it so far. The different SF preserve flavors shake it up a bit and I love the Starbucks smoothie. Better than anything I can make.

Preop Diet And I'm Starving!
Luckily my surgeon allows greek yogurt with SF preserves on Full liquids so on day 2 of pre-op I'm not doing too bad. Starting tomorrow I'm having 2 yogurts for lunch instead of one. Hopefully that helps the rumblies. I also picked up some of that high protein/low carb pudding from GNC but haven't tried it yet.

I'm Approved! Any Other May 9Th'ers?
Thanks! Now the adrenaline is wearing off and I have a week to contemplate that I have surgery coming up lol. If it's not one thing...

I'm Approved! Any Other May 9Th'ers?

Cross Your Fingers For Me!
How ling did it take to approve with aetna? I'm still waiting and getting really nervous that the surgeon will push me back to the end of the month if it takes too much longer!

On Pins And Needles!
Yeah I'm not patient at all! My surg off sent in paperwork only a week and a half ago which wouldn't be so bad except then they moved my surgery date from may 16 to may 9th. Now I am 8 days from surgery and no approval yet and my sister can't buy her plane ticket to come help me until we get approval. Talk about a nail biter!!!! Supposed to start liquids tomorrow and still don't know for sure if I'll be having it next week or not! Good luck to us all!!!

Ok Time To Be Real With Me..
I have a friend who just had her sleeve done (not a revision) and I know this is mean but all her whining and complaining on Facebook about how she feels so sh&*-y is freaking me out! If I recall correctly my band recovery 3 years ago wasn't sure too bad. If nothing else it was a piece of cake next to tummy tuck recovery a year ago! I have a pretty high threshold for pain (can tell ya about tattoos and piercings lol) but she's really getting to me!!! Is it really that bad???

Cold Feet Setting In..
10 days til surgery...still waiting on insurance..starting liquids wed...thought I was at peace with it but getting nervous. I want rid of this band so badly but scared of losing the adjustability. Will I ever be able to go to dinner with my family and eat a relatively decent amount of food without feeling like a weirdo??? Am I destined for kids meals? If I go out to say Outback after all healing, what might I be able to eat? Realistically? Of course it will be nice to go out and eat and not have to run to the restroom to barf like I do with the band but I guess I'm scared that I'm changing one set of issues for another! HELP!

Surgery In 12 Days, Waiting On Insurance Still, Argh!
I think the insurance is stressing me out more than the surgery! My sister is flying down to stay with me a week or two and we can't buy her ticket until insurance approves because if they don't the surgery will have to be, of course, rescheduled. Grrrrr. The paperwork was received 4/20 so they've had it about a week. I wonder if that's a normal turn-around time. I keep checking ticket prices and it's gone up $100 just in the last two days. Soooooo stressed!!!! Anyone else had this going on so close to surgery? Seems from what I've read most surgeons don't schedule surgery until after approval but I'm kinda pushy lol. But I'm ready to get rid of this band and move on with my life! Actually have my family on board, which I thought I wouldn't. They think I'm impulsive but what I do is make a decision, get the ball/red tape rolling, and then really dig in with research. You can always cancel if need be, but if you decide to go through you have less wait time. I think that's just good planning! I've seen enough posts on here about how much better life is with the sleeve to know I'm making the right decision. Everyone cross your fingers that approval comes soon. I keep picturing all the damage this dang band is doing to my body while time passes - like an evil little plastic ninja.

"decent" Tasting Protein Shakes?
Jay Robb for me all the way!!!

Things I Won't/don't Miss About The Band...
1. Having to hang out in the handicapped stall at work pacing and praying that whatever I have just eaten will just go down or come up already. 2. #1 plus going back to my desk after ridding myself of whatever got stuck and then having to run back 3 minutes later because I apparently was on a roll 3. Eating steak one day, throwing up a Protein shake the next.... Anyone care to add?

Has Anyone Seen The Show "the Real Skinny" ?
I have it taped but haven't watched it. There's a true life episode on MTV called 'I hate my new body' that is about a lap-bander who lost a ton of weight and now has a massive amount of extra skin. He gets his band unfilled and eats like a maniac for a night and then goes back and gets it filled again. Quite interesting if you can find it to watch.

Comparing The Band's & The Sleeve's Benefits
Let me add, because of the band-induced bulimia that my previously perfect teeth have had to have fillings on the fronts of almost all of them because of the gum recession from all of the vomiting. And there seems to be no end to the recession, I'm scared of actually losing teeth.

Pros vs Cons of emptying band
My surgeon gave me a 'I can't believe you just asked me that ridiculous question' look when I asked about it. He said he doesn't empty the band before surgery.

Cross Your Fingers For Me!
Woohoo they moved my surgery date up to 5/9! Now just insurance, EGD and pre-op certification to go!

Call Me Dumb...but...
My surgeon OK'd greek yogurt with s/f preserves for full liquids. WOOHOO!!! I was so tired of protein shakes after pre-op for the band I thought I'd never be able to drink them again. My favorite, however, is Jay Robb. I get the vanilla and use almond milk and half of a crystal light orange. Sometimes if I'm feeling frisky I put in 1/2 a banana. Even without the banana it's very creamsicle-like. And usually I add a dash of half and half to up the fat, but that's not for all.

Cross Your Fingers For Me!
My surgeon's office should be sending in my paperwork to insurance today or Monday. I'm scheduled for revision on 5/16 as long as everything goes through with Aetna. They don't see any reason for denial, but that's the funny thing about insurance - you just never know! I'm concerned because I had my original surgery with BCBS FL and trying to get my revision from Aetna (same employer, provider just changed), but they aren't concerned. Oh well, I'm crossing everything that can be crossed!
