  1. I am going to tackle it one day at a time. And persevere through the holidays. It is rough, but I am committed to a healthier me. :-)
  2. 1. I have had two laparoscopic surgeries in my life-time and the scars fade over time. I did nothing for my scars with the first surgery and plan on doing nothing with my most recent surgery for lap-banding. 2. I asked my doctor to call my prescription in before the surgery, so I had liquid loritab at home before the surgery and it is all gone. My pain was intense, but diminished over several days. 3. I scheduled two weeks off work in advance, which I needed for my recovery.
  3. I am not sure about weather changes as I am too newly banded, but I notice a big difference in the morning with tighter restriction.
  4. I have DVDs galore, but I get the best work out is from my treadmill at my home. I mix it up, so my body does not get use to the workout. I vary the incline, speed and distance to work up a sweat. I use hand weights for an upper body workout at home. It is more convenient this way and works with my hectic schedule.
  5. Pre-op 2 mile treadmill walk at 5% incline 4-5 times a week. Plus stretchy band to help losen up my back. Post op 18 days out, this is my first day back on the treadmill and it felt great. Now I am starting upper body hand weights.
  6. Okay, it is the day after Thanksgiving and I am 18 days post op. I have been staring at my treadmill telling myself to get to it. So, here I go. I am walking away from my computer and heading towards the treadmill. Back from the treadmill: 40 minute walk, 1.30 miles at a 2% grade. Plus 10 minute upper body weights. This is my first workout since the surgery, so I am on my way. Let's hope I can get back to my pre-op two-mile walk a day.
  7. Hello Denny. How exciting that you and your wife can support each other through the process. I would recommend reading the threads on this forum, because you will see that your weight loss to date is awesome. You will lose weight more during the liquid diet stage, because of less calorie consumption. Right now, it is more important to focus on your recovery and follow the doctor's orders. Congrats for making through Thanksgiving Day without falling off the wagon. Good luck and happy holidays to you too!
  8. Congrats! My advice is to keep doing your research, read the threads on this forum, and follow your doctor's orders. Best wishes!
  9. No you are not weird and yes others know what your talking about. You are half way to a healthier you, because you recognize the challenge of eating for health. Good luck on the journey!
  10. I am two week post op and the gas pain was horrible. Plus, I would get terribly nauseated with the pain meds at the hospital and at home. The doc gave me an ant-nausea patch in the hospital, plus several spairs for my recovery at home. The best thing I found for gas pain is walking. By day 7, I felt great and was able to drive, shop, and do light housework.
  11. It really does get better. I am two weeks out and the first 5-days were the worse. Pain, gas, soreness, and diarreah. On day seven, I felt great and was driving, shopping, and doing chores. It will get better.
  12. Call your doctor. There will be someone there to assist you even on this holiday.
  13. Good luck and congrats on being banded!
  14. Heck this was my 11th surgery and was just as nervous with this surgery as I was with the 10 previous ones. It is very natural to become nervous about any type of general anthesia surgery. I recommend you have a strong support system in place. Find out if your love ones can be with right before you go into the operating room. They can help ease your fears and you won't feel alone with them there.:grouphug:
  15. Sorry to hear this. But whatever you do don't give up. Many of us on thise site had to jump through so many hoops. We did it and you can do it too. The majority of people are required to go on a pre-op diet to shrink the liver. The liver sits on top of the stomach and must be lifted out of the way for banding. Think of it as an opportunity to make the surgery procedure easier for your surgeon and you. Talk to your bariatric surgeon for their recommendation and don't let this stop you from becoming a healthier you!
  16. OMG! Me too. It just started when I went back to work. I took two weeks off from work starting on 11/11/08, which is the day I was banded. I went back to work on 11/24/08 and that night I woke up with cramps in my calves. I saw the doctor yesterday and was told to really watch my Fluid intake.
  17. Welcome to the forum and best wishes to you with your journey. You will not regret it.
  18. Yep, me to, me to! I would like to lose 10 pounds by New Years Eve. That would put me at 218, which I have not seen in years. It is a goal I can achieve with support.
  19. How exciting for you. Congrats! And good luck. :grouphug:
  20. I have a 10cc band, which the doctor prefilled with 3cc during the surgery. I was banded on 11/11/08 and have lots of restriction. Water goes down easliy, but when I eat food I can feel when it is time to stop.
  21. After I completed all the insurance requirements, plus all the doctor requirements, my doctor submitted everything to Blue Shield with CalPers in California on October 15 and I was approved by the insurance company on October 16. Surergy occured on 11/11/08. It went really quickly once I was approved.
  22. I have read on this forum that BCBS Fed is execllent and that they respond quickly to authorization requests. Good luck
  23. Wow, I never heard that before. I did not have to do that. I have Blue Shield with CalPers, which is managed by Hills Physicians in California.
  24. I was banded on 11/11/08. I was 251 pre-op and I am now 228 post. I lost 12 pounds post op and the rest came off during the pre-op diets. I have lost lots of inches too. I am focusing in on inches, because you can get frustrated by the scale when the numbers don't go down. As far as pain, yes I was in pain, which was managed by pain meds. I stayed in the hospital for 2.5 days, because of pain management issues. While at home recovering, I had the normal issues gas, diarreah, and some soreness. I felt normal by day 7 and was driving and shopping by day 7. I went back to work on 11/24/08 and I am glad I scheduled 2-weeks off from work. For me, this was just the right amount of time off for my recovery. However, there are people on this forum who go back to work sooner. Good luck!
